Here is my thinking on the new 2014 C2. My goal is to option-out the "perfect" C2 for my wants and needs. I'm much older now and simply do not need, or really want, another C2S. However, I fully realize that there is a "monetary ceiling" with the C2 options, after which it would be foolish not to get the C2S. Since I'm good with all the other options on my 2014 C2 Build Sheet, getting both the PASM and Sports Chrono would "crack" the C2 ceiling. So I decided to pick just one, which at this time is PASM.
But I still have time to do more research and change it, if need be.

Thanks again!
I see the reasoning, but I think it's a rather artificial limitation that you're setting yourself. And I don't think one option will really push it one way or the other. Just get whatever makes you happy, as long as you can afford it of course.

That being said, if you absolutely only want to choose one, since you say you're only planning on driving around town and highways, I feel the sports chrono would kind of be wasted on your car. The chronometer part would pretty much be useless (except for the clock that would tell you the time, but there's already a clock in the instrument cluster). The sport plus mode would probably be too aggressive (you can always manually shift yourself if the regular sport mode is not enough). Launch control would be useless / too dangerous on the street. The only real benefit you'd get from the sport chrono package would be the dynamic engine amounts, and even then I'm not sure how noticeable it would be.

PASM, on the other hand, you'd enjoy every time you drive your car. In addition to lowering it an extra 10 mm, it provides a more compliant ride during regular driving, and a firmer ride at the touch of a button when you want to be more sporty.

IMHO, it's not even close. PASM would be much more practical for you.

+1 for PASM. Car is lower = looks better.

But anyway, no racing, tracking etc. Maybe a little "spirited" driving out on the Las Vegas desert highways every once in a while.
I ordered both options, but PASM was first on my list to be added, and SportChrono was dead last. So in your case, get the PASM first. You'll have more comfort in every day cruising, and the car looks sooooo much better with the lowered ride height !
Do get both options though if you can !

[QUOTE=certified_prime;3829295]Does the sport / sport-plus button firm up the suspension with the standard non-PASM suspension?

No, it does not. The standard suspension has no adjustability.

You need both. PASM is great in cofort mode to smooth out a rough road, in sport mode it gets a bit former for better handling. The best part is that if you are in comfort and start to drive with a bit more spirit, the suspension tightens up on its own. If you are in sport and the road gets a bit bumpy, it softerns itself up. The feature of the Chrono Sport package that makes it a must have is the Dynamic Engine mounts. Think of this a a PASM for the engine mounts. This is the best part of the CS option.

Bottom line, GET BOTH!

Have you test driven cars both with and without the power steering plus? Do you feel that it is necessary?

I'm not sure of the price delta, but I would favor deleting that and adding the sport chrono.

Just my 0.02

For a brief period (one month), I had a '12 C2 (991). No PASM or Sport Chrono. The proverbial "Plain Jane." The two main things I didn't like about the car was the standard suspension, and there was always a very slight vibration in the rear end. Especially while in reverse, backing up.
I didn't keep the car long enough to check into the vibration, but after the forum discussions about the Sport Chrono, I'm assuming it was the (lack of) Dynamic Engine Mounts. Don't know for sure, but I do know I wasn't very happy with the car. So even though I had just bought it, I "pre-traded" the '12 C2 back to the dealer, and ordered the '14 C2 with all the "right" options.

I've been convinced that I should get both the PASM and the Sport Chrono Pkg. for my "perfect" '14 C2.

Thanks again for all of the sugestions and input.

I only have Sportchrono and always regret not getting PASM, not for the ride quality (which is great) but for the 10mm lower ride height.
OTOH, I would seriously consider the SportDesign steering wheel with PDK and Sportchrono, paddle shifting in Sport Plus is absolutely fantastic, not so much with the buttons, same purpose but a whole different experience IMO.

I have both Chrono Pack and PASM as like as PADDLES.
I think they are a must to fully appreciate our C2S!
Another must? PSE!!!

If You placed an order for such a great car, don't complain about some dollar!

A different perspective from a multiple Porsche owner who isn't quite as old. Currently I have a Cayman R and a Turbo S. I've owned a 991 C2S as well.

For me, Sport Chrono is a must with PDK. It unlocks the full potential of the transmission. For a manual car, I would not order it.

PASM is also nice, but not really needed. If you will not track the car, I highly doubt you would ever use the sport mode.

I'd also nix the 20" wheels. 19" wheels will give a slightly better ride and tires are cheaper with more options.

I would get the sport design steering wheel instead of the multi-function wheel too. I much prefer the paddles to the goofy buttons. It's also a bit thicker and just feels right.

Power steering plus is also not needed IMHO. Had it on my 991, did not like it.

Many will disagree, but I'd ditch the PSE as well. I'd rather get both sport chrono and PASM than sacrifice one or the other for more noise.

I'd also seriously consider the new Cayman S over the base 991, but that's a whole other discussion and I have no need for back 'seats'.

I would drop the power steering plus. I know it's only 275 or so but I just got mine and think the steering is fantastic with out it at all speeds. Apply that money to something else you want on the car.

Thanks for the compliment . I do understand your goal and have gone the same route in my car purchases . The big difference is that nowadays the price disparity in adding on ideal options can be 30K and 15 years ago it was maybe 10K.

Most of the time I wish I had chosen the option (within reason) . I have never over optioned a car to the point where upon selling it I regretted it and it is possible to do this .

That said I look at your build and it does not seem as though its hard to find a car with your specs . In fact you might even have a better chance of getting more options for less if you bargain on a car which is already on a dealership lot .

For instance a 2013 car ought to cost less than a 2014 ordered car right out of the gate . Plus if you wanted to split hairs even more colors like platinum which will be replaced with rhodium ought to shave even more as it gives some buyer leverage in negotiations .

One more thing even though you don't want a the "S" and are choosing a base car ... its easier to price negotiate on an "S" . The reason is because a base car is an entry 911 so it gets every buyer who has stretched and dreamt of a 911. The "S" costs more and that works to the buyers advanatge because the dealership won't want to lose a customer who comes close but yet refuses a base car as a choice .
I even wonder is a 2013 C2S in platinum on the lot might just cost nearly the same as a 14 ordered C2 + or - 5 to 8 grand (depending on which you chose) .

I do feel that PASM is the better choice in the either/or selection .

Hope this helps .. good luck !!

My 13 c2 has SC and standard suspension. I did not care for the added comfort of the pasm and frankly I wasn't in need of the SC either. Now that I own the car and drive it everyday, I love the SC. Lately I have been driving in sport+ and shifting myself. Tried the launch control the other day and wow! Felt like I was floating for a second. Second biggest grin since driving the car off the lot. Aren't the roads pristine out there in vegas? I have never been but I know they are better than upstate new york, where I am. I have no issues here. Best get both since you already had one shot at the 991 and didn't get it right.

I though that the standard suspension with its lower spring rates would be more comfortable than PASM under normal conditions, PASM has the ability to tighten up the suspension depending on your driving, hmm maybe I got this all wrong

Jeez, where's the love for Platinum Silver. I haven't even received mine and it is a "discounted" color . . .
