2014 Carrera (base) Question: PASM or Sport Chrono Pkg.
For a brief period (one month), I had a '12 C2 (991). No PASM or Sport Chrono. The proverbial "Plain Jane." The two main things I didn't like about the car was the standard suspension, and there was always a very slight vibration in the rear end. Especially while in reverse, backing up.
I didn't keep the car long enough to check into the vibration, but after the forum discussions about the Sport Chrono, I'm assuming it was the (lack of) Dynamic Engine Mounts. Don't know for sure, but I do know I wasn't very happy with the car. So even though I had just bought it, I "pre-traded" the '12 C2 back to the dealer, and ordered the '14 C2 with all the "right" options.
I've been convinced that I should get both the PASM and the Sport Chrono Pkg. for my "perfect" '14 C2.
Thanks again for all of the sugestions and input.

You did well !!!!
I agree, Vegasguy you did very well.
Imo the major difference between Sport and Sport Plus (SC) is when in auto mode. With Sport Plus in auto mode it's almost prescient for racing. Every shift is at redline and downshifts under breaking are instantaneous. You can basically set it and forget it on the track. Sport auto mode is still very good for enthusiastic street driving but is not as extreme as Sport Plus.
In (PDK) manual mode I really didn't notice much of a difference at all between Sport and Sport Plus. Maybe throttle response was boosted a bit in Sport Plus similar but not quite as instantaneous as the sprint booster effect but that's about it. Launch control is cool though and certainly does optimize 0-60 starts which is why PDK cars with SC are a couple tenths faster 0-60
Engine mounts. Honestly I can't see this having any noticeable effect on handling unless you are going for a complete coilover suspension such as Motons and pushing the car all out on the track
PASM in addition to providing enhanced handling which I would prefer over dynamic engine mounts provides
1. a taught yet comfortable ride you can enjoy everyday. Maybe the best ride I've experienced in a sports car. Amazing how Porsche could provide a level of comfort and damping that is still firm and precisie with no floatyness or mushyness at all.
2. 10 mm lowered height really adds to the overall look imo
Therefore unless a couple of tenths of a second matter to you and you plan on competing in track events, I would take PASM over SC. Of course if you can get both do so as Sport Plus auto can be a blast.

Ok I have the same problem. I'm planning to order a base 991 but I can't decide between PASM or Sport Chrono. Or both or none... I'm ordering the 7-speed manual so I don't think Chrono is as essential. The only gain would be the engine mounts. But I won't be tracking the car. Only occasionally pushing it a little.
I am curious how much more do you get out of the sport+ button compared to the "already standard" Sport button?
Is PASM worth it? I'm guessing it's something I have to try. Seems essential if Porsche decided to include it as standard on the S.

Agree on everything you say, very well thought out and written down ! Sportchrono has zero benefits. I wasted my money on that option ! I do have Pasm too though. That is a must !
I've been driving my 2013 c4s with spasm and chrono (MT) since March. It's in sport + and firmer ride all the time now. Rev matching on the downshift, the firmer ride, even a delay in throttle roll off (resulting in smother upshifts) makes for one awesome ride.
I don't miss my 997.1 turbo at all and never used the firmer ride setting on it (too harsh). Porsche really evolved the platform, you should take advantage.

I was debating the same things.
I now have an S w/ 30K in options.
Here is whwat I now think;
On a base, skip PASM.
You can add KW Variant 3 coilovers later and dial in the exact ride quality and ride height you want. And thats only if you think the standard suspension is not good enough.
Skip SC on a PDK
It never gets used in street driving unless you want to race someone.
Get SC on a manual (for the rev matching)
Id skip all other performance options on a base, since its a well balanced car by design already so enjoy some savings.
I would get Burmester, because the Bose leaves me unimpressed.
Also, Natural Leather would be on my list as an upgrade over the normal Full Leather.

Hope this helps!
Thanks Vegasguy for your update. I'm surprised to hear that you're saying it'll become "boring" after a while without PASM. I would think PASM works in a way where you can't tell that it's working to give you the best ride all the time.
So your new S doesn't suffer from the vibration because of the sport Chrono? Do you know of any other reports of vibrations from people without the dynamic engine mounts?
I'm leaning towards PASM but still having trouble with Chrono. I don't need rev matching since I do that myself, just not perfect 100% of the time haha. And it only does it in sport+ mode. If they gave me a dedicated button just for rev matching I would consider differently.
