Hi all 991 owners (Cabriolet owners in particular),

I wonder if any of you here have experienced the same problems which I encountered.

Problem (1):

I was making a gradual turn and I decided to have the top taken down: bad move. The cabriolet cover opened up towards one side and it resulted in a pretty deep scratch and slight tear on the roof which can be found at the bottom corner.

Porsche Asia-Pacific had done tests on the car but couldn't simulate the situation which resulted in the scratch. Hence, they are dismissing the claim.

Problem (2):

Additionally, the inner roof lining of the convertible top will fall out everytime I take the top down and the only way to get rid of the problem is to manually push it back into it's rightful position.

Has anyone encountered the two problems above? My dealer claims I'm the only cabriolet in town with these issues.

Perhaps it's me and I'm plain unlucky. Hopefully someone can advice or share with me similar encounters.

I have brought up Problem 1 to the dealer. They are reluctant to have the roof changed and asked for more evidence: like recording the incident (which means I need to have a camera mounted at the rear to capture anything - how is this possible)

Problem 2 is currently being kept in view. Waiting for a German engineer to be back from his holidays.

The car had lots of other problems since day 1: faulty programing with DRLs, poorly painted rear tail-lights and footbrake pedal which refuses to surface.

Really disappointed with the quality of the car; nevertheless it's still a dream come true, although that dream is a lil flawed somewhere

 

wow, sorry to hear of your cab top issues. I've put mine up and down in turns, over bumps, in windy conditions, etc, no problems.

The liner and everything has been completely trouble-free since last September and I put the top up and down several times a day.

 

Same here. I put my top up and down several times a day and I know I have done so in turns. I would be at the dealer ASAP as that is NOT normal.

 

Apparently they did tests taking turns, but I was the only one who managed to get the cabriolet cover opening up resulting in an awful scratch and disfiguration on the roof.

Will keep you guys posted of the outcome. Unlikely I be able to claim because Porsche Asia Pacific seems more interested in saving costs than satisfying their customer, in my very own opinion.

They are probably thinking someone, or maybe even me myself, vadalised the car. I'm sure the vandal would have picked a better spot and carved something bigger.

Problem 2, ive had this issue on my 997.2 Cab. in the rear corners. My dealer used velcro to secure it.
Problem 1 seems like a fitment issue w/ the cover. Do the gaps look consistent?

This sux for you considering the cost of this car in SG. USD 250-300k right???

thanks, the scratch on the right side was at a near identical location (just a little less severe).

They actually replaced the roof once, which could possibly result in problem 2. There was initially a scratch on the right bottom corner of the roof and now on the left. Both scratches are a line about 4mm thick and 2-4 centimetres long.

Yes, I've paid approximately 560,000SGD for a car here and the dealer thinks I have nothing better to do than to be probably scratch my own car and claim for a new roof.

I've taken a video down showing the inner-lining drooping and the manager-in-charge of claims in this region said "he could not see anything visible" when even a lay person who has absolutely no interests in cars could point out the differences.

We are talking about a 991 cab roof right? It's quite a bit different than the 997 cab roof (I've owned both). The new cab roof is fabric over magnesium plates and doesn't come open at the sides between layers of fabric like the 997 cab roof did. There are nice solid plates in there now. You can't knife through it.

Hi all,

I met up with a German engineer attached to Porsche Asia-Pacific last week to have my grievances addressed.

He made an inspection of the car and concluded that the scratch and tear on the convertible roof was caused by the possible mis-alignment of the cabriolet cover.

Addtionally, the inner roof-lining was possibly due to a loose or broken cable which could be attributed to the previous change of the fabric roof caused by the problem above.

Hence the good news is that I am most likely going to have my roof changed. Nevertheless hopefully they will be able to solve the problem with the alignment of the cabriolet cover otherwise the same problem will occur again.

Thumbs up to the German engineer from Porsche for his good judgment and analysis! Apparently this is the first and only case worldwide but nevertheless it should be good for Porsche and all current/future owners out there in case the problem arises.
