advice pls on porsche upgrade from 997.2 to 991

Hi All,
Have been enjoying my grey 997.2 C2S PDK now for 1.5 years and now ready to take the plunge and upgrade to the 991 PDK. I must admit that I like the look of the sports design package (ducktail) and glass roof options but dont know much about the practicality of these. Could any owners with these options tell me if they had any regrets adding these on pls? And also am planning to testdrive a few variants but any comments on the new 4S vs C2S PDK? And lastly, how difficult to maintain a white colour porsche? Admittedly the grey can go a week or two without washing and u wouldnt know the difference. Many thanks for any advice anyone can give. cheers. Rob

The sport aero kit is nice looking, add more aggressive look to the car.

I personally think the gt3 bumper and wing look better on the 991

As for the glass roof, it allow more light in the cabin, BUT there is a terrible wind noise problem, I never use the sunroof because of the annoying wind noise in the cabin, it's not normal wind noise either. Go test drive one and u will know what I am talking about. But if u open window like an cm with sunroof open then noise go away a bit

I wish my car didn't have sunroof now, save some weight

Don't get me start on the windows roll all the way down wind noise

But with all the faults on the 991, I still luv driving the heck out of it

Make sure u get the full leather package, it dress up the interior perfectly

when i as shopping my salesman mention heatsoak w/ the glass roof. Something to consider in hot weather climates.
I do luv the look of the black glass against the white paint however.

And lastly, how difficult to maintain a white colour porsche?
I have a white Cayenne and had a white 997.2S . I also have a black 997tt .
Most people think of a black car and the first thing that pops into their mind is "hard to clean" . It's actually for that reason taht most expect a black car to be dirty and if it happens to be clean they notice it .

With a white car its the opposite . Any spec of black (like a finger smudge or if a piece of tire rubber on the highway hits it , and bird drop, insect, tree dropping) . it shows instantly .

I still love a white car especially in a warm climate . I also love how the 991 in white shows the cars lines beautifully, yet it remains understated and elegant .

thanks all for your genuine responses. i went to the porsche shop today and got educated a bit more. @yrralis1: agree with your comment about finger smudge but the whole package looks elegant indeed. anyone have views on adaptive seats vs stock?

I'm too big to fit in the adaptive seats, so you need to try them on for size and comfort if you're big.

White is probably the easiest color to maintain; if you see a dirt-spot or fingerprint, simply wipe it away with detail spray. Try that with a black car.

Have the glass sunroof and love it but I only open it at low speeds. I would agree with full leather because that is the one thing I would have like'd to add.

I would recommend trying all the seats because personally I went with plain sport plus - 2way and love them... Really don't need all of the adjustments but that is very personal so try them to be sure.

As for the color, black was the only way for me this time. For the next one (don't tell the wife) I would go for a blue/convertible... Don't get me wrong I love my color scheme but do like to vary car to car... That is if you call black to blue to blue to grey to blue to blue to grey to black variation

I don't have a 991, but I think white looks fantastic with the black contrasted glass roof. I have no experience with the wind noise issue that was raised earlier by advantyper.

The sport design with the duck at the back is nice on the eyes too!

I have white and love it. I think white is easier to take care of, although I think silver is another color that is relatively easy to take care of. The thing with dark color cars is that scratches from road debris, etc, are immediately noticeable versus light colored cars.

Hi Rob,
I did what you were thinking recently, traded in my 2 year old silver 997.2 C2S PDK for a 991 C4S PDK (black with aerokit cup).

On the 991 aerokits, it is worth noting that the front bumper lips are now a painted, more rigid piece instead of the slightly flexible black plastic/rubber on the 997 and 996. So, if you wind up scraping the front lip on a driveway or ramp, it'll be a bit more noticeable since you lose some paint, and there's a bit greater risk of cracking/breaking. The primer under the paint is white colored, so if you're getting white maybe it won't be as noticeable.

On the glass sunroof, the inside cover is not solid but a mesh like fabric that still lets light through. So in the daytime, you'll still have "filtered" light coming in from the sunroof through the glass. I'm not a sunroof/convertible type, so for whatever reason, that bugged me a bit.

My car was one off the lot, and came with the adaptive seats. I personally would not have ordered them, given for me the 991 is being used more for street so I didn't need the side bolsters.

Colors are of course always personal preference. For me, I think darker colors (when clean) can show more of a car's curves (reflections/highlights depth), which get de-emphasized or flattened with lighter/brighter colors. I think lighter colors also give the illusion of being "bigger" in size than darker colors. IMO silver is the easiest color maintenance wise. Black and white hardest, but in different ways.

A couple of things: sport button is now standard. Sport + comes with Chrono package. If you liked and used the Sport + mode on your 997 (launch control, auto shifting at redline, etc), then you need the SCP. Otherwise, since regular Sport is standard, you may not need SCP.
Second, there's the Power Steering Plus option. It makes the steering very light under 25 mph.
You may or may not want this option, as it really impacts the steering feel, imo, so test drive.

And, yeah, forget the sunroof. For me it's either a cab or coupe w/o sunroof. No in-between.

I have a 997.2 c2 and love it. Fairly easy to maintain but break dust is very noticeable on the body- I still have to clay mine soon ! Next time if I get a 991 I'll go for rhodium silver for a change. The 991 looks great in white!

I am undecided on the looks of the glass sunroof on a light colour 991. Last night I was playing with the Porsche 3D configurator. If you you spec a glass sunroof it will show up on the car and you can move it around and look at it from different angles. You should try that and click that option on and then off and compare the look directly.
