Walked in to discuss a 991 and left with a .....
First, congratulations.
I totally understand and think you made the right call. My weekend car was a 2012 C63AMG Coupe with a Development Package - I traded in my 997 C2S Cab for it because my daughter didn't have enough room in the back. Well guess what, compromise doesn't work so just I ordered a 991 C2S, however, like you daily driver mine is a Cayenne (actually with a manual transmission
. Before I got the 997 I had a 987 Base Boxster - it was awesome. Prior to that I had a Honda S2000 and so on. The beautiful thing about about the Boxster is having a perfectly balanced and fully engaging car that does everything you could ask for on the street and more. People get so hung up on this number, and that number, on tracks with this switched off, and that switched off - that they forget to really "feel" what the car is like, and what it can do for you on the street, which is where you're going to drive it 99% of the time. The other thing is that your Boxster was made on the very same line, by the very same people that make the 991 in Zuffenhausen.
The other thing is, and I appreciate the emotion that goes into deciding these things, that while very few people have unlimited resources, our tastes, needs and what we value changes over time. What you're looking for at this particular junction in life, may not be what you want in 3 - 4 years. My point is that, judging by your current stable, this isn't going to be your last car. You're going to enjoy the heck out of it, and if, and when the time comes, you'll try something else. That's the great part of being alive - Carpe Diem!
You also found a car that has everything you could want - 90% of the Boxsters on dealer's lots don't have PASM because dealers are concerned about pushing into base 991 territory, but let's face it; this decision was about you and want personally moved you. You didn't spend a 160K for an 80K car, you spent maybe $5K - $7K over what most are going for, but got it with all the things that are going to enhance your love the car. Enjoy, be happy and safe travels!!!

Car looks superb. Adding a convertible to the stable is never a bad idea. Enjoy it in good health. Did you lease? (jk lol I could not help myself)
Congrats on the new car. She's a beauty. Enjoy in good health.
I miss my Boxster S but need the "tiny" back seats of the 911 as my son fits in just perfect !
Did you trade in the M3?
How would you compare the M3 to the 997.2 you had? The new M3/M4 coming out soon is getting me thinking a little.

No doubt a great car, I also agree that the new Boxster looks fantastic. I would have liked one, but being taller I just couldn't drive it comfortably, too small to consider even for a weekend fun car. 991 Cab fit just fine. Perhaps only time I wish a was shorter!
Great car Larry! I've driven the new Boxsters, both S and base and they are delightful. In reviewing the new Cayman, Dan Neil at WSJ said its the better car (vs 991) for US roads, whereas the 991 is the choice in Germany for left lane supremacy on the autobahn. I don't totally agree but there is a lot of truth in that statement.
My friend recently bought a 2011 Turbo S with 12k miles and I took it on a long ride through Bear Mountain. I was impressed with the power (duh!), the handling (better than I expected), and the ceramics back to back w my steel brakes are noticeably more powerful. The heavy steering also made me miss that a bit. But the downside was the car very quiet from the cabin. Even with windows and sunroof down and at WOT it was dead quiet. The 991S with PSE sounds so much more emotional.
Anyway, enjoy the new ride in good health.

Even though I ordered my 2014 C2S at the dealer in Fort Myers, I'd planned on browsing The Collection since it is only 1.5 miles away from my Coconut Grove home, just to see what they have. I think maybe I should not do that for fear that I'll want a car RIGHT NOW and lose my resolve to wait for my ordered car. Worst thing one can do is keep shopping after making a purchase.
Wow - i just signed on to see a so many interesting replies . First off I want to thank the group for the replies, insights and comments on the car as well as the purchase . I'll touch on a few topics that I noted as i read them :
1) The 85K - I do realize that 85K is nearly a base 991 price point , a used 07/08 Turbo , a 11 GTS , and I even found a 10 PDK Turbo at 103 so even that is not so far off . The car purcase was more about the car itself and how it fit into my life with my other cars at this time .
2) Driving impressions --I have been posting some my intitial impressions in the Boxster section but I will say that many of the comments on this thread about the cars balance and agility are what I found impressive as i drove it to South Beach today. I was amazed at how top up driving can be acoustically fantastic compared to the the top down almost go cart feel . One thing that i like is that the door sills are just the right height in this car and the driver actually is seated pefeectly to get enough wind to feel the breeze but not so much that it feels like a wind tunnel . Porsche really did an amazing job.
3) The particular specs on this car -- whoever speced this car mustv have really given it thought . The red belts matched to the dials and this blend of comfort (ie ventilated seats .. Miami can be hot and humid) and sport (PASM) make it a very interesting choice .
4) Manual and PDK - I happen to be one of those folks who likes both . I find that the strengths of one point towards the weak areas of the other and visa versa . I somewhat look at the Boxster as this "fun car" type of experience and with that I like the idea of rowing gears . If i were buying a Turbo coupe then PDK . a 991 C2S would alsao get PDK but only because the improvents are that good in the 991 over the 997 . PDK is in my opinion the main reason to sell the 997 and get the 991 UNLESS one has a modified Turbo . Then it's wait and see . Thus far many of the Turbo tuners have voiced that the PDK gearbox mated to huge HP increases would pose a problem wheras with the Gt1 engine and a manual gearbox both the platform and the stage three clutch upgrades can withstand 600-750 HP on stock internals .
4) Yep there wil be more Porsches .. I look at it like this .. if and when the 997 turbo or the cayenne gets to 35K miles then I face the replacement decision . I have a feeling the Cayenne will get there first and i am hoping that by then the SUV will come with PDK .
5) Sanibel -- I have bought many cars at the Collection and over the years they have become like a family . In fact after 20 years of these cars I can still remember when they are well as myself were young . In short .. through the years and the cars we have in many ways grown up together . You can feel free to PM me if you decide to go and I'll be more than happy to direct or even meet and introduce you to sales and service guys whom I know for many years .
No atter where you buy your car I do wish you the best with it . I have read yoir posts and see how much time and effort you have placed into making your choice great.

Gorgeous car! Congrats on a knowing what you want and what you love...and pulling the trigger. Honestly, if I was going to configure a Boxster S, not sure I'd change a thing! Boxsters drive amazingly well. Enjoy!
