I am very happy with the purchase .
I've wanted a Porsche since grade school - this year, at 65, I acquired two in less than 6 months. First the Cayenne [manual], trying to be practical/sporty but really missed the low to the ground experience.
Was feeling conflicted. I needed the "truck" but then fell in love with a Boxster. They're like puppies - don't go looking at them for fun- you'll end up bring one home.
The "fleet theory" saved my sanity.
I kept thinking I could only have one ...
problem solved.

That's a joke, right? The Cayman S is very connected, but is not a C2S, at least one with SPASM/PDCC. The current CS engine is equivalent to a 996 and the interior, for extended driving is a bit snug. It doesn't sound like one either. Personally, I'm not concerned with the value equation.

I would not pick a Cayman S over a C2S( if I only could have one Porsche) . However the new Cayman GTS will seriously narrow the gap of a base 991 comparison .

However , I would pick a Boxster S over a C2S Cab (comparing the two cars and competition at the two price points) . A convertible sacrifices performance so what's the sense of paying the exta money to have a lower performing 911 . Plus the smaller cabin space of the Boxster and door sill height make an ideal setting for less cabin wind . The mid engine and smaller platform feels so balanced that i feel it accepts the lack of having a roof better .

PLUS --At 130K it's just too, close to Gt3 and Turbo territory to have 991S Cab. In fact every time I get to the 130K price point I cant imagine anything but an ultimate 911.

If i am going to spend another 60-80K above a Boxster S then a convertible actually sounds boring compared to what Porsche offers at that price point.

In the world that is Porsche, ultimate has several meanings. I suspect the new GT3 will be considered the ultimate stock track care that can be driven on the weekend. It will be make every Porsche owner proud since it will be the newest sweetheart of the motor press but it would not be my personal ultimate Porsche. The fixed wing just looks awkward sitting in the real world.
We all know the Configurator is like Chinese food. You think you are full but keep wanting more. Maybe it's like good sex, more is better! Unfortunately, my personal Ultimate is neither a GT3 or a Turbo (does anyone really opt for a Turbo instead of a Turbo S because of the cost?) but a C4S in Metallic Mexico Blue or lime Gold with the Sport Design fascia, the Powerkit and a lot of leather! it runs north of $182k. Its not necessarily what I'd actually ever do, but who knows, dreams sometimes come true in the world that is Porsche.

+1...my ultimate 911 is 4S (I've got everything I needed )...naturally aspirated engine, tremendous grip of awd, right amount of width in the back as well as wheels/tires and lots of leather (which I have)..never wanted PCB or Power Kit...am a contented man

I was going to chime in with my opinion regarding convertibles (it isn't a favorable one)... But as I was clipping your post, I realized that I agree with everything else as well.

I also enjoyed watching someone else nickel-and-dime him/herself from a Boxster to a Turbo. That's how my brain works as well.
