Question for those who have front ParkAssist and Curbs

Does your front Park Assist detect curbs this high?

Why would it have to (as long as there isn't a thin pole there as shown in the picture?). That curb you picture would not impact on the front spoiler or undercarrage of the car (even a GT3).

Beg to differ Lonnie. There is no perspective in that picture so we are not sure of the height of the curb. Where I live, DC Metro, the curbs are too high for my Sport PASM front lip. So I air on the side of caution and I do not have parkassist.

To answer the question, not sure that the parkassist with detect the curb. I have heard that it doesn't.

I know that doesn't really help you much but I understand the concern.

fine. Let's say it is an inch higher. Just wondering where the limits are.

Sorry, you're right. I wasn't seeing that picture in proper perspective. I imagined the curb much lower looking at the lower line where it meets the street.
Seeing it more clearly, that definitely IS a curb that could wipe out the front spoiler. My son has a Pan GTS with sensors front and rear, and I know that it picks up curbs that high.

I don't think it would detect it. I think it needs to be about 7-8" in height. I've had the front lip rub on curbs that the unit didn't see. Now I just don't get as close. The car is small enough that it won't stick out the back end of the parking spot. The spoiler wasn't hurt. It's rubber and is designed to take damage and be easily and (relatively) cheap to replace.
You could always back in. Get more clearance in the back.

My experience with Park Assist is that it does not detect curbs front or rear even backing towards a curb unless there is a pole or tree near the curb then no warning. Really need a backup camera.

Concur. It's been of no use with curbs in my experience.

On standard curbs it picks it up, but on very short curbs it does not. I learned the hard way. Already replaced the SPASM lip because of this. Truthfully, I have lost confidence in the sensors because of this, at least for parking against standard curbing.

These type of sensors are most effective when the object is directly behind the sensor and the object height is the same or greater than the sensor. The sensor is like a fixed flashlight. It doesn't tilt or pan. I wouldn't rely on the sensors to detect curbs. They do detect objects like signs, foliage, fencing, etc that are placed close to the curb. Some cameras can look down and are much better for detecting curbs. Visual cues like shadows, relative door placement to other vehicles, and side mirror adjustments will aid as well. If you park where there are curbs, it is a matter of when, and not if you will scrape a lip.

I have both front and rear sensors. I find them of little value. They only seem to detect those things I can readily see. I just leave plenty of room.

I just don't know if it detects curbs. however if it requires a certain height as has been suggested, that is not of use either.

I agree - the parking assist is of little value in detecting curbs, or anything else for that matter - IMHO.

I have this option on my Cayenne and absolutely detest it !! It does not detect curbs but is sensitive enough to actually be distracting.
