sport design steering wheels (991 vs 997)

i am looking into changing my steering wheel so i can have the paddles. i still get confused with the forward/backward and has to think to avoid mistake. but 991 has a different part number from 997 and costs 500 more. i don't understand why they would be different. has anyone tried this or has more info. i asked suncoast but the answer is do not know.

I don't understand why Porsche has the stupid buttons. I kept downshifting then I wanted to upshift and vice versa, so confusing. The sport design steering wheel should be standard. Good luck in your search.

For the 997.2 generation, all you need to upgrade to the paddle wheel is the steering wheel. To retrofit the PDK paddle wheel to a 991, it requires more than just the steering wheel. You also have to have the steering column control unit, multifunction switch (mounted from the steering column), and possibly other pieces. It's all VIN-specific, depends on your options. There is a newer steering wheel for the 991, maybe different wiring? Not sure.

I have no steering wheel control or multi function. Just a wheel with two buttons.

Check out Carnewal.com. Gert Carnewal has a multitude of wheels with paddle shifters available. I installed one from him, a RAID in carbon fibre/leather and the CF matched the CF in my 996TT Cab perfectly. Great service from him also.

Ok then you have the standard wheel which means you already have the stalk to control the dash functions. So "all" you need is the paddle style wheel and software flash from a dealer.

I, on the other hand, have a mf wheel and NO stalk . So i would need a wheel, stalk, wiring and a expensive install!

I did a little experiment over the weekend.. Took out my buddy's sports design from a 997.2 and tried it on mine. It worked perfect without any additional dealer work. The lights for sports, sports plus did not work since I have a 991 base.
