Just wondering if its worth the trouble. I mean even with a crystal clear image of a person's face captured by the camera, what is the likelihood that the police would ever be able to track that person down?

Car jacking is pretty drastically deprioritized in most areas, much less a smash and grab or vandalism.

Though I think you could possibly create a deterrent if you were to make the presence of the camera known, without it looking tacky.
I am not sure what the OP is going to use the camera for but I have had one in my cars for 4 years now and it has been used a few times. The best save was when I woman backed into my car and then claimed I hit her. I was so grateful for the video that day. Second was a crash that happened in front of me on the highway. My car was not involved but I was able to send the video to the poor chap that was being blamed when it was not his fault.

They are small and no one notices them in the car. Worth having I think.

No tracking. Crash prevention and when I'm not there, to see if there is anyone messing with it.

nmurray22. Got my blackvue camera today and started off kind of ****ty. Had to reformat the sd card and load a updated firmware twice due to issues with the sd card.

Just got it to work and notice 2 other issues. Time and date are not correct and yes I went to settings and changed it to my time Zone. Hoping after driving it a few days GPS will solve those issues.

Another issue is the camera keeps rebooting after a event recording. Is that normal? Basically I put the camera on the table and led turns red and shuts off and boots back up into normal recording...

I did not use the sd card that mine came with as it is only 16GB and some people say it is a slow card so it might cause problem. Maybe try a 32 or 64GB branded card like sandisk or kingston (I have the 64GB sandisk). You will get more than an hour or two of recording that way and the higher record speed of the better card must help with the stability of the device.

As for the time and date. Yes I have seen this on the 500 model (not the 400) from time to time. When I first got it the date was out but then it just corrected it's self after a while. As for the time I found the setup file did not save correctly so I just re did it, I think I edited manually.

No idea about the rebooting after event, I do not get that with mine, maybe a fault?

Have a look at these items, there should be one for you..
very cost-effective device with excellent performance, can be used not only for insurance fraud but also can be used as a common DC to shot the landscapes along.

Does such a camera drain the battery from the car or do you buy a battery separate?
