Sport seats

Thoughts? I will not be tracking whichever 991 it is I end up buying, but on the other hand, I will rarely be driving for more than a couple hours at a time, and even a couple hours' continuous driving will be rare.

I was skeptical and originally wasn't going to go with sport seats. I however am growing to really love mine..(14 way).. I don't feel I need the extra bolstering of the 18way.. I also thought the front extension was unnecessary until I started fine adjusting.. Now I couldn't do without it..

I only have a 30 minute commute to work, and am not super picky about such things usually.. But I'm glad I didn't scrimp on this...

I have the 14 way sport seats and they are too narrow for me in the shoulder area. I wish I had the sport plus seats, they're more comfortable for me.

To me Sports Seats Plus are mandatory.
I think they learned some people dont like the bolstering so they offer the Sports Seats for them.
The bolstering does make it hard to reach for things (kids for instance) in the back seat.
Its a sports car though, so you know what seats it should have.

Appreciate the responses; to clarify/confirm these are what I am referring to when I write sport seats:

Oh oh. I climbed into one of those in a 991 GT a few weeks ago. Nice to sit in for a few minutes, or for flat out track driving. Everything else ?
Be sure to test those BEFORE you order them !

Those are not a USA option are they?
They should be called Sports Seats Super Plus.

Do they still have lumbar, recline and tilt adjustments?

I don't think those are available in North America or maybe only on the GT3.

They are the lighter bucket seats, right? Very little adjustability in those I believe. Don't think I have seen any owner pictures of these on this forum yet.

Those are the Sport Buckets and are not available in the US. No word as to if or when they will be available.

I do not live in the US, and did not know that this option (available where I am) is not available in the US, sorry! Where I am this option is apparently available on the Carrera S and even the base Carrera.

As LPB987S wrote, they are lighter bucket seats, and I do not believe that there is much adjustability to them.

Here's the setup in my car (in the US):

I have used 997 "GT2" seats. You can get them from Suncoast and other vendors: http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...ode=9972s_seat.

The seats are a very simple swap with your 991 stock seats (disconnect wire harness, remove 4 bolts, install the bucket seats, use the same 4 bolts).

There are a couple of issues mainly due to the fact that the wire harness is not 100% compatible (two connectors, only one of the two fits in the 997 seat).

-the weight sensor of the 997 seat is not compatible. Therefore, the airbags integrated in the bucket seats will probably not work (hey, there are not airbags in aftermarket bucket seats anyhow). You will also get the airbag alert light going off in the instrument cluster. It can be fixed... do not ask me how

-your car memory functions will stop working until you reinstall the stock 991 seats. Not an issue for me (I am the only one driving the car), but I think it also applies to the settings of your sound system (not the radio stations, but the default bass, treble levels, etc per source).

Since I am tracking my car and am the only driver, I swap the seats for about 6 months a year and am very happy with this solution. The seats are just as comfortable as 991 seats and I regularly drive the car for 5 hours in a row without any back pain. They offer a lot more support in sharp turns which make you love them even more. I can confirm that there is no adjustability (except for moving them forward/backward). You can recline them to let someone brave enough sit at the back of the car. The fit and finish is superb, especially the Carbon Fiber on the back.

I bought the 997 seats when the 991 was launched and I think that 991 bucket seats were not even available in Europe at that time. Maybe you can find a way to import the 991 bucket seats from Europe (through a friend, Porsche and others won't do it) or wait until they become available in the US (maybe within a year?).

Hope this helps.

These are indeed the same seats that are available in the GT3 (except for North America). They do recline, but that's about it. I don't like them at all.
If you are small, they are horrible to sit in for longer than 15 minutes. I once had a loaner 981C that was equipped with these seats and I hated them even after 5 minutes, because they are too wide and big for me (I'm 5'4.5") and don't support my body in the right way. For me, only the 18-way seats work. For other people those seats are a PITA.

Be sure to try a seat before you order. If a seat is comfortable, depends on so many things and is a very personal thing. Never order seats just on looks!

Great advise Suzy - will compare the 14 vs 18 way seats this weekend. Until I read your post I didn't even think to sit in the 18 way seat.
