Warped Rotors

First spots under the clear coat and now warped rotors on a 6 week old car... What an eye opening experience my first Porsche has been and that I've waited half my life to buy!

How did you notice the rotors being warped, vibration, humming noise? I believe mine are warped and taking to the dealer Tuesday. What did your dealer say?

Have you done any track days?

Hi Bboerit,

Sorry to hear that. It's sad when you have such high expectations for a new car and have to accept these types of problems so soon. Did you take it in to the dealership? Are they going to replace them?

Really hope everything works out.

From your avatar pic, your 991 has serious problems.

Even Patik Phillipe makes a watch that stops after a few weeks. Sorry that you had to be the one that got a lemon. I hope the dealer gets you up unspotted and warp less quickly.

The fact that it has 4 doors or on a U-Haul?

I need to update it, my 991 is white as well, but I am too lazy.

Thanks Guys, rotors being replaced Wednesday... Slight shake in wheel and you feel brake foot pulsating when breaking...

So it's happened again. 8 months and 1,500 miles later and car is back at the dealership for a second time to replace a set of warped rear rotors (all four rotors were warped the first time, this time its just the rear ones). I'm not an overly aggressive driver, no track time, and no hard braking that I ever recall doing. Dealer has no clue what is causing it. Pistons and everything else checking out fine.

Anyone else had this problem? Only 4k miles on the car.

Wrong torque on wheel bolts?

Do you ever wash it and put it away without driving it enough to "dry" the rotors a bit? Sometimes that can lead to pad deposits/rust imprints on the rotors which can cause the pulsating feeling.

Crazy luck on the rotors.
As mtony said, its not ideal to let the rotors rust over.
Use a leaf blower on them after washing the car.

Also, after a hard stop, try not to stay at a light with foot on brakes.
Try taking foot off brakes, as long as car won't roll into something.
The uneven cooling can warp rotors.
Worst case, roll car a bit at the light, to even out the rotor cooling.

Ideally, if approaching a light, where you may have to hold foot on brakes, do a gentle stop so you don't have super heated rotors to contend with.

Also check if you tend to ride the brakes, as that builds up more heat than necessary, which combined with uneven cooling can cause warping and/or uneven pad deposits.

Warped rotors twice in how many miles? 2K? (Based on your posts) I've been driving high performance cars for 40 years and only warped one set of front rotors. That was on a Z, driving over 100 mph and hitting stand water.

Do you have PDK? if so, are you a left footed driver? I have a13 991, non- PCCB, and have done lots of HEAVY braking from over 150mph without problems. If you continue with this problem after 2 replacements, it's time to look elsewhere. Mechanical problems with the car or your driving habits.

Sorry, I was born without the filters to be politically correct. lol

People, listen to yourselves.
"Use a leaf blower on them after washing the car."
"Try taking foot off brakes, as long as car won't roll into something."

What's next, take a fan with you to cool the rotors at a stop light??

How about this - You've clearly got an issue with your brakes and we hope they fix it by replacing the calipers, rotors or whatever it takes on their part.

Why can it never just be a faulty component with these imperfect cars.

To the OP, please keep us posted on the outcome of this mystery.
Thank you.
