I had my first annual done this week at Porsche of Warwick; About $136 in parts, $156 in labor (@ $129 hourly) plus a BoxsterS for the day. Was $335 with taxes, $11 in shop supplies and a $17 loaner fee (you don't have to refill gas on their loaners).

$165 in Scottsdale, Phoenix for a 10K oil change. Total time of 2 hours on the lift (I actually timed it). In addition to the oil/filter change, they checked for leaks, topped off all levels, adjusted tire pressure. Free hand wash prior to returning car to owner.

Shady dealer service practices and outrageous markups make me miss my M3 and my wife's previous X5. My Porsche dealer wanted me to give them a deposit equal to one hour of service cost for them to trouble shoot interior rattles on my year old 991 claiming that rattles are not always covered under warranty and $600 for a one year, low mileage service (oil change). Seriously? This is a $100k car and has more rattles, knocks and squeaks than any other car I've owned. My wife's Cayenne is coming due for a 30k service and will soon need brakes. I better bring the KY.

Sorry to hear that. I have taken my 1 year old 991 to my dealer for rattles 5 times. $0 charge. They have replaced a door panel, a side mirror switch and totally disassemed and reassembled the driver side door assemblies twice. Rattle is finally gone. Every time they gave me a free Porsche loaner (Panamera) and free hand wash. Additionally, they apologized for the inconvenience re-assuring me that they will fix any rattle for free during the warranty period. I guess I am very lucky to have a good dealer.

I have been to Porsche of Warwick, just to visit. So after my questions about the charges to the service manager, guess what, they figured out I was overcharged by $74.00, which brings my service to about $370. He said it should only be about 2 hrs on the lift.

One thing to note: I was mistakenly charged for 996/997 Turbo level service, which is more expensive. Pays to ask questions and check what they actually did!

Business owners are in business to take risk and make money, saying they are unethical because they need to cover their costs is uncalled for.
We are certainly aware that businesses exist to make a profit for its shareholders, and with this there are operational GS&A cost that must be addressed. I respect the risks taken in enterprises endeavors.

However, hedging financial risks and padding the bittom line on the backs of consumers is an unethical practice.
When I say unethical practice, the issue stems from the increasingly blantant collusion between manufacturer and dealership group to ensure that certain low cost owner servicable items or non-critical lights/bells/messages distractions have no "off" switch and become dealer service items, or are made so difficult to access, no average owner would be able to effectuate the service and must go to the dealer which in turn makes an owner spend $60-100-400 for services that have a true material and labor cost of cents on the dollar and could be executed by an 8-year old.

The fact is, engineering, technology, and material advances have combined to make a better vehicle. One that is more reliable and requires less major service, at increasingly expanded service intervals. As expected, with less visits, the service manager /dealer owner has a reduction in potential revenue.

But to me that's reflective of a broken business model or a model that is becoming obsolete. So, someone with integrity would say lets get together, think hard, fix the business model (cough: annual service contracts) - not let's see if we can squeeze consumers another way with things that will simply annoy the sh@t out them or make their eyes bulge when they're handed the invoice.

It's as insulting as it is unethical, but not everyone shares the same principles and ethics.

By that rationale, I'd expect a supermarket to charge me the minimum of $10 for a pack of gum. All business have margins and costs. You build relationships with customers by treating them well. Charging outrageous, indefensible service charges is a way to run a business in to the ground. The only reason many of these dealers are still in business is because the consumers love Porsche, and the cars they make. For most people, there are no options for dealers.

The dealers that speak highly of are the ones who do the small stuff for free. They are friendly and helpful, and never make you feel like you have no choice. I'll gladly pay a reasonable price to an honest dealer - they're just impossible to find.

Weird. Why would anyone go to a central site for service coupons. 99% of the time, you know what dealer you want to get service at and you go to their web site.

Hey guys I discovered this site whilst doing some research on buying a 991S here in Australia. There's some really good info here.

Anyhow, as I'm sure some of you know, cost for a new 991S with a few options is around $270+k AUD here and services at the local Porsche dealer are about $1k p.a.

And I know it is far more expensive in places like Singapore.

Just a bit of perspective that should help brighten your day

Of course it's more expensive to service the cars down there, that's because it is so difficult to drain the oil while the care is upside down!

Hey frank69m, thank for your reply.

I'm very happy that you have developed a relationship with your dealer but I for one don't share the same faith in any one dealership. When I had my 997, I was always being quoted outrageous amounts for very basic service needs. At one point last year, I called 6 different dealers for oil change quotes. All the dealers were within a 30 mile radius of my house. The range of prices were $299 to $630 with one dealer that I called twice quoting me two different prices and another telling me that they don't give quotes over the phone. Anyway, I though a site where people can get coupons and service quotes from dealers would be very useful. It would have been very useful for me.

I get coupons from dealers in the mail all the time and I figured that other may have coupons that they don't need and my site can distribute them to people that might be able to use them. At some point, I'm hoping that dealers themselves can just put up coupons into the site.
