They could've made it a selectable choice for the driver to decide what mode is his personal default and that wouldn't have affected their fuel efficiency claims.
If I could be certain that the Michelin Pilot SS would be quieter (I'm already convinced they are superior in every other way), it'd justify discarding the P Zeroes and spending $1500 to replace them with the Pilots. Otherwise, trying to convince the wife that it's a good idea to replace the original tires with only 300 miles on them is gonna be a really hard sell.
