Automatic headlights sensor

Hi all,

My automatic headlights are coming on in brighter daylight than they used to. I wonder if the sensor is dirty and so is 'thinking' it is darker out than it really is. Does anybody know where the sensor is so that I can check it and clean it if necessary? I've checked the manual, but nothing there.

All best and happy driving.

It might just be that the sun is lower in the sky now and not as bright. I have noticed this with my Mercedes GL that in the mornings and afternoons the headlights are coming on.

The sensor is forward of the center speaker in the front dash near the windscreen.

Yes that occurred to me and it COULD be the case. However, even in quite bright sun my lights are staying on.

Thank you! I've just given it a wipe and we'll see if that improves things. Have to say, it already looked clean, so perhaps is not the problem. It could be a faulty sensor. Or it could be that the setting is more sensitive than I would like.

I will report back if the sensor wipe changes things.

Mine doesn't turn on the lights until it's very dark, much darker than when my previous BMW would've turned them on. Don't know if that's normal...

How annoying. That's probably worse than my problem, isn't it? Coming on early being better than coming on late.

I'm waiting for late morning/early evening conditions to test again now that I've wiped the sensor.
