PDK Sticks in gear!
PDK Sticks in gear!
anyone else experience their PDK sticking in gear sometimes? I was on the highway and I stepped on the gas to pass someone. After I passed the car, I let off the gas but the PDK stuck in 3rd gear for maybe 10 seconds before dropping back down to 6th. Its never happened before. Should I be concerned? Thanks!
yup. that's what it does. nothing to be concerned about. the car reads acceleration, incline, yaw and factors them into the decision as to whether to shift.
at times, it is almost telepathic. it's probably waiting for another WOT and wishing it was on the Ring.
in that 2nd gear readlines around 80mph, you should be fine.
if you are concerned, manually shift up.

what is normal for us is not really normal for a 991. This car can live at redline all the time. it's sort of like a racehorse being used to pull a pony cart.
when it's in 3rd traveling at 80mph it's thinking that it's time accelerate.

It's occasional and the tranny maintains the gear waiting for you to pound the throttle. The PDK seems, on most if not all occasions, to read you mind. I have also experienced this 3rd gear "pause" and it promptly shifts into 6 or 7. The reason it is so noticeable is that the PDK seems to never miss a shift or choose the wrong gear.
I haven't tracked it yet but at an Autocross I turned in one of the lowest time scores on my very first AX. I kept it in Sport and just drove the h*ll of of the course, slamming the throttle and brakes where indicated. It made all of the right shifts at the right time. I didn't win the event, but I came real close. They funny thing was that the comments I received had to do with the PSE...everyone seemed to love it.
I've rowed other cars (and still row my MGB) and there is absolutely nothing like the PDK.
It is a pleasure to drive.
