Oil level not available right now
Oil level not available right now
Just has this caution displayed when I tried to check the oil level. Engine was warm and couldn't get the oil level checked when stopped or moving. Has anyone had this happen? What's the fix?

I did an oil change on my car on Friday and as of this morning I still can't get an oil level reading. Don't know how it was before the oil change, since I never really tried to check it before.
When I change the oil I take a measurement before them I drain and measure the amount of drained oil. If pre drained was ok, then I just refill with the amount drained. There is a potential for a mess but I have been lucky as no spills. I can usually drain 9 quarts.

I have found that I have to check the oil level before I open the engine compartment lid. After the lid has been opened it takes a fair amount (don't know how much as a minimum) of driving to get a new reading.

Give me a dip stick any day.
So if you're really low on oil, are you supposed to drive 20 miles to get a reading while grinding your engine to a stump?
I've heard of the 20 mile routine and it seems excessive to say the least..

If the oil level was below the minimum level you should see a warning on the MFD.
You are correct Runner - but the increased reliance on electronic senors for oil has always scared the heck out of me.
It is the one reading where I see the least room for error, especially if the engine has been overfilled.

In addition, I may be incorrect in assuming that a low oil quantity would always trigger a warning on the MFD. The online iManual states that "Warning messages are issued only if all measurement prerequisites are met".
Prerequisites for the oil-level gage:
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
2. Switch off engine, which is now at operating temperature.
3. Wait for approx. 1 minute.
4. Select the "Oil measurement" function on the multi-function display.
So, if you were to start the car in the morning and drive off with the oil quantity at less than minimum I'm not sure whether you'd see a low oil caution display right away. I'll have to confirm this with a Porsche tech.

Thanks again for the help guys!
