My new C2S
My new C2S
I wanted to introduce myself. I am a new Porsche owner - but a long time performance car enthusiast. I have been on the Mercedes forums for a long time, but recently took the plunge away from the tri-star brand and head first into this:

standard stuff for the C2S, including PDK, glass roof, 18 way seat, etc.
Only got about 97 miles on the car - brought her home Saturday - so I am sure I will be having plenty of fun soon.
Had some standard new ownership questions though:
1. Is there REALLY a break in period for these cars? and if there is - what is it? (The book says 2k miles - but that doesn't seem right)
2. First oil change - because of the shavings and engine tolerances - I have always changed the oil on any new performance car after the first 500-800 miles - Any reason why I should NOT do that with this car?
Thank you all in advance. I always wanted to be a member of 6speedonline - guess I had to wait to get a proper car for that.

Congrats on the new car! I absolutely love the color. You'll get many different views on the break-in period. Some follow the recommendations religiously and others don't. Personally, I didn't adhere to the break in recommendations. On advice from my dealer, I "drove it like I stole it" from day 1. Just vary the RPMs and the engine will be fine. I didn't do an oil change yet (closing in on 5,000 miles). It was odd to me as well not to have to do an early oil change, as I had a 1,200 mile break-in service with my old M3. Enjoy the car, and drive it in good health!
Beautiful! Is that a 2014 or 2013? If a 2014, I guess that is the new sapphire blue, right? I haven't seen one before. If it is sapphire, how does it compare to the previous Aqua Blue? It looks a little darker, but that could just be the lighting in your photos.

Your questions have been the subject of epic threads here.
I broke mine in for the recommended mileage. It took me the better part of 6 weeks, and the performance is such that I did not miss blasting around. Took some focus given the long trips and the technique of varying engine speeds. You do realize how fast it goes in every gear? That was blast enough in the upper gears. Did it matter? Can't say. On the other hand, I changed my oil at 800 miles. Likely a waste given modern production technology. But I felt good about it, and that matters.
Great color choice. Yes, you certainly should follow Porsche's recommendation on the 2000 mile run in. You will still have plenty of fun getting acclimated to the 911. It is not a MB that drives itself. An early oil change is a total waste of time. I am not too concerned with the cost, running an average of $250-300, but with needlessly pulling off the entire rear bumbler assembly. I'd say the less you mess with the body the better.
Congratulations! I love the color.
The color looks identical to the aqua blue on my 2012.5 991.

For break-in I ascribe to:
Below 4K RPM until oil temp is up to 200, then just vary revs. I avoid redline.
For oil change:
Per the mileage recommendations or after one year if you don't hit the mileage.

Congrats on the car, color looks very nice. I would try to follow break in as described by porsche, jnscola has same thoughts as I do on oil, if you decide to change it early, it is actually really easy to do yourself and no, you do not need to remove the entire back of the car. Enjoy the car..
Congrats on your car and welcome! I too come from the MB family (AMG for me).
I will be struggling to deal with break in too when my car comes in any day now. I'm glad you brought it up, because I too typically follow break in on my cars and do an early oil change. Is it true the rear bumper has to be removed for oil changes? They can't suck out the oil through the dipstick and reach the filter from below? Yikes, don't know how I feel about have the bumper yanked every time.
EDIT, nvrmd, just read the other post about no bumper pull, thank goodness.

Lovely car, lovely color. Welcome to Porsche.
To answer your questions:
1. I stuck to about 2000 miles of easy driving. I kept her below 4-5,000rpm when daily driving it around town. Opened her up a few times here and there, but babied her most of the time. It didn't bother me at all; the ~2,000 miles flew by quickly, and really made me appreciate the car's top-end pull when I finally felt her open up. That, and the sound of our engine about 7,000rpm... :P
2. No need. Seems like they don't suggest it at all, despite some other companies preaching the exact opposite.

Thank you all for you prompt responses! To answer if a questions its a 2013.5 - and the color is aqua blue. I didn't see ANY difference in the new color. The dealer had mine side by side with a 2014 C2 sapphire blue - and could not tell them apart.
I still have a ton of questions regarding programming keys and functions. My biggest issue is - is there a way to make it so that every time I start the car - it starts with the sport mode on - so that I don't have to press the SPORT button?
Also - the auto-stop/start in non-sport mode is annoying and frightening....just had to share.
