Jack Stand Points

I need to change my wheels on a C4S next week and I know where the jack points are but do not know where to put the stands after I lift the car. I know folks have done this before so I am asking for specifics on where to put the stands.

I don't think there is a real good place. Get jack points. Also if you jack the front or rear high enough you can put a jack stand under the other jack point and both wheels will be off ground. I don't like this method and would rather just work with a good jack. Jack point stands are really the way to go.

Don't ever trust a jack, jacks fail, even lifts fail, that's why they have stops built in. I did a search on the internet and saw were they talked about points to put stands and a interesting part to use to lift the entire side.

I would like to get Jackpoints, just need to do this next week and they are out of stock. So I need to use stands to change my wheels out. Maybe I will just use the jack for each wheel individually this time. Unless someone has a better idea...

I change my tires by just using a jack. I know jacks can fail. I have a super good jack and I keep clear of the car. It's a good idea to block the wheels on the other side. I've done it this way for over 50 years your milage may vary so don't blame me it the car falls on you.

I trust my jack for swapping my wheels (at home or at the track). I lift the car high enough using the rear jack point to be able to remove two wheels at a time. Yes, a jack can fail, that's why yo buy a good one...

If I need to work under the car or keep it lifted longer, I use jackstands (carefully placed under the lower suspension arm if I remember well).

viper3838 is infamous around these parts
To change tires one does not require safety stands. Use a trolly jack and jack the car up from the rear jack points. If you continue jacking up high enough the front wheel will eventually lift off the ground too. Change both front and rear wheels with entire side of car in the air. Never go under the car physically without safety stands and always use wheel blocks to ensure that the car will not roll.

Thanks Serge et al. for your messages. I think because my confidence levels with the suspension arms are on the low side, I will go ahead and jack one wheel at a time with no stands. I will definitely not work under the car as there is no reason to.

As an aside, I am looking into JackPoint stands and will try to get them in before I need to change wheels this week. Will probably get them anyway because I will changing wheels for winter/track. I will post pictures when I am done.

I swapped wheels yesterday using just a jack. As others have said, just make sure you have a good jack and don't let any body parts get under the car and you'll be fine.

Another questions - is there a jack up point where you can lift the entire front end - both wheels up at once -- instead of one wheel at a time? Same for the back end.

I'd never trust just the hydraulic jack Itself... Even when pulling off a wheel I put a jack stand somewhere just in case...

Generally you never trust anything hydraulic that doesn't have some kind of mechanical interlock.. Often the seals wear somewhere and they slowly slip.. Throwing a jack stand gives you a backup in case that happens...

Would I change a wheel with just a jack? Maybe especially if I'm not going to leave it up for more than a minute or so... Would I work on the brake calipers. Or stick my body under something that could crush limbs... No way..

There is no place I would want to use!
