Chipped windshield
Chipped windshield
Hey guys, I will have to change the windshield on my 991. The guys at the Porsche dealer supply the OEM windshield but do not do the job themselves, but bring in some third party. Is there anything I should be aware/afraid of when they do the job? The Porsche Maintanance Procedure that was shown to me at the shop clearly said that they had to use a special "Double Cartridge Glue Gun" which my dealer does not have. I suppose that the gun is to be used with two different types of glue that mix together, but I do not think that is what the third party "expert" will use. Anybody has had this problem? Thanks for your insights.
I (unfortunately) had my 991 windshield replaced 3 times already. My dealership also has a third party that replaces all the windshields for them -onsite at the dealership- using OEM parts and material only. The job has always been perfectly done. I would not worry about it as long as it is supervised by the dealership. I would not go aftermarket though: they will have to buy the windshield from Porsche anyway (no generic replacement glass yet for the 991) and they may not do the job as well.
Checking prices in the US, Safelite (Carglass/Belron) is only $100 cheaper than the dealership. Total cost is ~$1,000 here.
