turbo to 991?
turbo to 991?
Has anyone had a 997 turbo and is able to make some comparisons to the 991 S in terms of power and fun factor? I will rarely go to the track.
Do I really need a turbo forthe street? Just wondering what to choose and having a difficult time.
Thanks.
Anil

Yes I did. Will provide details later. On iPhone now.- EDIT-------
I had a 2007 Turbo for a year and then sold it for as it was a second car and I moved into NYC. I currently have a 991 C4S (PDK, PDCC, PSE, etc) and have 6000 miles. I use it as part DD in the summer and part weekend car. The 991 chassis is much much better than the 997. Then handling and feel are amazing. The 997, especially the turbo when I nailed it and the car would squat, had this really nervous feeling and I could barely tell if the front tires were on the ground as the wheel was all over the place. The 991 while now has electric steering, taking some of the hydraulic feel out of the wheel, is much more stable and planted and makes the car, IMO a much better driver. Also, the factory suspension on the 997 was pretty soft under certainly circumstances and when I pushed it the car it would roll, lean, etc. The 997 TT needs some work on the suspension. Not necessarily firmness but under steer when pushed feel. The 991 is so planted its crazy. Also, the tire slap on the 997 was really bad and car was really noisy. Much better in the 991. Electronics, NAV on the 997.1 are very old and terrible.
As to power, the 991 is a really fast car but does not have the torque down low like the 997 TT. If I get caught between 1/2 gear on the 991 when downshifting would be really short and need to nail the gar to get going, the 991 lacks the power to get going a takes a second or two to rev up. The 997 TT did not have this problem. It's a really different drive as the Turbo always has the power ready until you reach 5500/6K and then nothing where the 991 just gets going at 5K and pulls like crazy. Bottom line you need to keep RPM's up in the 991. Not 5K all the time but 3K and ready to down shift if more power needed. But, the turbo had so much power my ears would pop sometimes when I went full blast.
Around a track the 991S if faster than the 997 TT due to chassis and PDK, but a tuned turbo with suspension would make a big difference. As to tuning the 997TT, a few bucks, you can add a lot of HP. Not so with the 991.
991 electronics are soooooo much better than 997.
Hope that helps.

I hear you but I feel that my. 991S build is 20k short of a turbo. Therefore is it worth another 20-25 k more ? I am afraid to drive the turbo because then I know it's over.
Thx.
Thx.
OPNielsen who also posts on 6speed went from a 997 Turbo to 991S and has been very happy with it, but as you pointed out, the biggest improvement was on the track where the new chassis and the linear power delivery made the 991S MUCH better. On the street, the 991S is plenty of fun already. More than te 997TT, but that's just a personal opinion.
Now if you are down to only $20K between a 991S and a 991 Turbo, it means that the 991S is loaded and that you may not comparing apples to apples in terms of equipment (even though -if I am not wrong- the Turbo comes with full leather, PDK, AWD and a couple more things).
Even if you are afraid to do so, drive the 991 Turbo
I have not driven it, but you'll read in the reviews that the power delivery smoother than before. It could be a very tempting car indeed...
