Kbb vs trade in value
Kbb vs trade in value
Anyone who has recently traded in a car that can comment on what they got in relation to the Blue book value for trade in? Was it similar or way off when you got to the dealer?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Well my last three Mercedes I've gotten pretty close, or have gotten the good condition trade value but with some negotiations. They always seem to offer poor of fair condition $$ so you need to push them. Ive never been able to get excellent condition value and Im sure you won't with Porsche either unless its a GT car you are trading in. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the info. At least they are within the range that kbb reports which is helpful. I was wondering if they even go lower than that. Thanks.

if your car is in very good condition and you take the "Fair" value from KBB you will have a good price point. Dealers use Galves, not KBB. But KBB Fair is fairly close to KBB Fair. Ask to see Galves, most will show you the book so you can see for yourself.
IMO, if you get much better than KBB Fair you are paying more for the new car. Most dealers will make people happy on the trade and then not discount the new car as much or nail you on the interest rate on purchase or lease. They have to make their money some where.

On January 8th, I traded my 2012 Carrera GTS coupe near the high side of the "Very Good Condition" on KBB. The dealer also gave me a 3% discount on a MY2015 991. They would not go any higher on the trade and would not budge on the discount. A different Porsche dealer offered a 6% discount off on a MY2015 991, but the trade value was lower and the deal not as good overall. Regarding the trade value, the car was in very good condition and I believe it met the criteria for that category.

22% off, thats a huge discount. i think most people on this board will be happy to see you buy their cars for them if you can get that big of a discount.

this is no my2015 991 yet
frank69m,
I bought the first C4S allocation for MY2015 the dealer gets. The time frame is unknown, but I expect being able to order sometime in May or maybe June. Maybe sooner, who knows.

Just sold my 2012 991S back to the dealer in December. 18,000 miles. KBB "excellent" condition was 75k, dealer gave me 73k. I still miss her. But my 2014 C4S will be here in April...
I usually feel that kbb in "fair" condition on an excellent car is the potential owner insult but it is the norm as a starting point of trade in negotiation . A bit of chatter can bring it closer to the "good" status and if there is a regional trade in tax credit it can sweeten the deal . Keep in mind that trading in a car involves a separate dealership entity (used car manager) from sales . Ultimately the dealership wants to sell the car so they internally wrestle with trying to find a way to profit on both ends and still move the unit . also keep in mind that a local customer who serviced the car at the same dealership gives them insight into that specific car as well as owner .
In short dealerships want to retain a classy shopper who takes care of his (or her) cars and might offer favorable pricing leading to a "good deal" . Kbb is a helpful guide though .
