Track wheels and tires

I have a 991S that spends significant time at DE events and am looking for a wheel/tire (non-R compound) combination that is strretable but would consider a separate set for the track. Preference is for 18 or 19" wheels but would settle for just mounting 20" tires on stock wheels. I have not been able to find a lot of options for the car, what gives and any suggestions?

Please search this forum -- many threads on this already. You can't use 18"s on a 991. There are at least a handful of options in 19" and 20". On track I run Toyo 888's on 19" 997.1 C2S Carrera Classic wheels and it works great.

Kind of the same here: 888's on 19" BBS CHR for the track and Michelin PSS on stock 20" rims for all the rest. And yes, rear suspension arms will not clear 18" rims.

19 or 20" OZ Ultraleggeras are the most popular pick for for track wheels. 245/40 19 and 325/30 19 Bridgestone RE-11 is about the closest that you will do for OEM diameters and about a half inch wider than stock. Unfortunately there isn't much available in 305 and 315 that has the correct overall diameter. OEM 245/305 works best in 20" with Michelin super Sports being most popular.

Please give me a call if I can help. Thanks.

For the record, I would not consider myself a lazy poster. I searched "track tires" pre-post and after the 1st 2 pages were off topic I posted.

I am a big fan of the R888 but as stated I participate in a few events that restrict R rated tires. I haven't had a lot of luck looking for 19" tires in stock diameters and a Tire Rack search for stock sizes show only Michelin Pilot SS, the stock Pirellis and the P Zero Corsa System. The car sees limited street miles, 1500 a yr at most, so anyone have anything good or bad to say about the Corsa system. I would like a little more sidewall and a little less wheel but 20" will work.

Damon, you guys have a warehouse right around the corner from my CT office and Musante Motorsports who works on my car so I am a prior customer and ready willing and able for more such dealings. The car is in hibernation so I won't need tires until last March or early April depending on when winter decides to leave us.

Do you mean the NT05 as the NT01 doesn't show up in that size on the Nitto website? Any rubbing with the extra width?

Yup, my bad, I meant NT05.
http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/Street/nt05#size

I have 255-35-20 PSS in front now, on 20x9 Sport Techno.
No rub w/ plenty of room to spare.

The 255 tires are actually not much wider (over-all) than the PZero 245's, but they put more rubber on the ground.

The 305 rears are much wider than the 295.
Even a 315 would fit easily.
I just did not think a 315 tire was needed, for a mere S with "only" 325 ft-lb of torque.

I've been searching for a wheel/tire set up as well for the track. I think 19" wheels would be ideal given the extra sidewall. You should check out the Yokohama AD08 tires. They're meant to be street/track tires.

Unless I want to with performance street tires I am finding it requires a bit of size flexibility to find something suitable. Has anyone run 265/30-19 or 255/35-19 on the fronts and if so any rubbing issues? How about 305/30-19 on the rears?

You would actually have to run a 255/245/35/19 and a 305/30/19 in the AD08R, so you would actually be running overall smaller diameter then stock.

The Micheline Sport Cup 2s are in OEM sizes(GT3 comes standard with these) and has a 180 wear rating, same as the Yokos.

I just got this from Michelin--

The Pilot Sport Cup 2 305/30ZR20 103 (Y)(part # 08148) and 245/35ZR20 91(Y) (part #85347) are backordered with no production dates scheduled in the near future, so we are unable to predict their date of availability, Larry. Unfortunately, that is all the information we are able to provide at this time. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Our production dates are updated monthly, so please feel free to check back with us periodically.

We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing Michelin.

It is our goal to ensure that your issue has been resolved or your question answered to your satisfaction. If we can assist you further, please respond to this email or call us at 1-800-642-4354 (toll free) between 8:00AM and 8:00PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday or between 8:30AM and 4:30PM Eastern Time on Saturday.

The guys from wheelenhancement.com are currently building me a set of Forgeline GA3R wheels to run R888s 265/35-19 in the front and 305/30-19 in the rear. They measured another 991 C2s and said there's still plenty of room even with the 265s. Just need to get the right offsets, and I couldn't find a set of standard production wheels that works. Eric from Supreme Power had a set of BBS Motorsport E88 wheels and was running 255 PSS in the front.
