Trading up or a mistake?

Maybe you guys can help me out. I have a 2004 996 TT Cabrio with about 28K miles, and looking for a preowned 991. The TT is way out of the price range. A dealer called me with 991 cabrio with < 5K miles. Will I be happy with a 991 base or wait a bit and get the S for another $10K? Is it worth it? I drive about 4,000 miles a year in spring and my drive to work is less than 5 miles each way. I never track the car. Your thoughts? Any must have options? For me the MT is a must have.

Having a 996 turbo cab, to me, is exclusive. Having a base 991 cab, to me is not. You might be missing the torque by making that switch. My 0.02 is go for an S cab, or what about a 997.2 turbo??

Coming from a TT you'll definitely miss the torque.

I have a 996 TT Cab (somewhat modded) and a 991S X51 Cab. The TT has gobs more torque but not quite as sophisticated to drive. You would not be happy with base 991 (I test drove base 991 Cab and also 991S coupe in Germany (each for a number of days - rental cars). Far prefer the S. Both cars seem to have similar overall performance but have to drive the 991S in a lower gear to get it so using the HP rather than Torque to make it perform.

I would take any 991 over 997.2... Porsche has really out done themselves.
