Porsche Steps Up to the Plate.
Wonder if they'd make one more for me?????
Any guesses what the list price is on a complete GT3 engine? 30-40K ?
Also curious if Porsche would be able to reuse any parts off the recalled motors or must scrap them.

Yes, I think that a new 'standard' engine is already around $40k, so a GT3 must sell for more than that. Now as far as Porsche is concerned, the real cost of the GT3 engines will only be marginal cost (material+labor) + shipping & installation. All the development, infrastructure, tooling costs and depreciation have been 'absorbed' when the car was sold for the first time.
A GT3 sells for $130k. So the engine is 60% of the cost of the car? I find that a little hard to believe. I mean they're gorgeous engines but 60% of the cost of the car? I dunno...

The S engine is $33.5K.
The Base Engine is $25.7K.
Although there is a version of the 3.4L that costs $32.3.
You can see these prices on the online parts sites of Sonnen or Gaudin.
GT3 engine is not listed yet and probably wont be for sometime.
Keep in mind these are full engine assemblies so labor is a big part of that cost.

That's nothing my friend.
The 0.9 liter four cylinder four stroke (flat four) of similar overall construction to the 911 engine (also water/oil/air cooled) from the Austrian company "Rotax" - it is good for 100hp, that happens to live in my small two seater aircraft is now a good $30K.
That makes the Porsche engine sound like a bargain.

This will is not only a replacement cost but also the opportunity costs associated with replacing close to 800 engines before they start putting engines in new customer orders on the books that were scheduled for this year. Double whammy for Porsche. For some reason I suspect Porsche will make it up over the next few years with increases in options on new orders. Just might take them a few years but the general consumers will end up making up the loss. So get ready to pay more for a new Porsche in the next 2-3 years. I think it's called price creep.
