Cayman GTS vs 991 C2
If it is a daily driver, the 991 beats the 981 easily. If it's not a daily driver, the decision is a lot harder to make. Like some said before, they different cars and one really has to drive both to make that decision. None of both cars is "better" or "worse". They're just different.
If it's not a DD, I'd go with a Boxster GTS. It's cheaper, looks better, has all the benefits of the Cayman GTS plus you can put the roof down, enjoy the wind in your hair and listen to the exhaust note
Those 10hp less are not noticable.

Suzy, I don't find myself disagreeing with much of what you say. I think there are some decent arguments for the Cayman GTS. But the part about it looking better than a 911 is not among them imo.
However now that you mention it, the more of these new boxters i see on the roads here the more i feel like its the best looking Porsche out there!
Although, purely in terms of basic design, I do think that the Boxster (especially in GTS trim) is the best balanced design of the current Porsche line-up. However, the 991 is such a classic and iconic shape that it is hard to fault, as long as it is a coupe or a Targa that is....Still not a big fan of the cab (I am a small fan though LOL!

But the cayman is not just 10 hp less. It is also stiffer and handles a little bit better and revs to 7400 while the boxster is like 6400 or 6600? Something around there.
I am kinda torn on which to get but kinda leaning to the boxster GTS. I think it is the 2nd best looking car in the line up behind the 911 turbo S and not counting the 918.
Do owners prefer the boxster or the cayman more?
I was playing with the idea of a cayman GTS or boxster GTS and then a 911 C2. The 911 C2 with my options comes to 119k. While the cayman GTS comes to 104k and boxster to 100k. Cayman is stiffer and handles better on paper, but in real life you don't notice ANY difference. At least not in the S version, and I can't imagine it's any different in the GTS.
Note that the Boxster is developed as a roadster instaed of a coupe from the start. It's stiffer than the 991 cab.
The only benefit a Cayman has over the Boxster is IMHO that you have 100 liters (3.5 cubic feet) more luggage space on the shelf behind the seats (if you need that) and that the interior feels a bit less cramped.
OTOH, the Boxster can put it's roof down and then there's more headroom than you ever could wish for, plus you hear the exhaustnote a lot better! It definitely adds to the fun....
Besides that, a Boxster is the most practical roadster money can buy. It has a lot of practical luggage space in the frunk and trunk. No other roadster offers that.

I did indeed mean that the Boxster looks (slightly) better than the Cayman...not the 911.

SpeedSterr, The boxster sounds like it is pulling at your heart strings. I have a C2 and it came in at 105k with PDK, Sports chrono, Bose, sunroof and a few more options. At 119k you would be overspending on a C2. At 119k this is C2S territory.
Just go drive the Cayman, Boxster and 991. It should settle what decision you will make.

I think I remember seeing a driving test with a Boxster S with every option (I know, much different than a Cayman GTS) against a 991 C2, and the 991 beat it considerably in every category except price. The C2 was base, none of the sports chrono or any package like that, so from a pure numbers perspective, the 911 I think would win, but like everyone else has said, they're different cars with different driving experiences.

i also have drifted toward the edge of the cliff reading about the Boxster GTS... I currently have a '13 C2S cab and love it...options listed it at 130K...ive spec'd out a Boxster GTS to 97K and seems like a great deal!?? However i am worried about missing the great road feel of the 911. i continue to covet the roadster.... I guess i'm just pathologically ADD...
As others have said, completely different cars. If you go with the Cayman, I wish you the best. A friend of mine just had Porsche buy it back under the "lemon law". Was in the shop for 5 out of 8 months. I'm sure this was an isolated experience, just saying.

But you said it, the Cayman and 911 are different cars. Forget about price, and others' opinions, drive both and pick the one you like best.
