9500CI Radar detector Laser Shifter Upgrade- Fair?

Dealer just quoted $1,100 labor plus parts cost of $600 to do the laser shifter upgrade on 2014 C4S. Seems steep? Opinions?

Agree with this. Plus there is another thing to think about which is that Laser Interceptor (which is the white label OEM for the Laser Shifter Pro) is weak against some of the newer guns.

If I was installing a 991 right now, I would go with the Antilaser Priority.

Also if you do want to stick with the Shifter Pro, make sure you get 4 heads not 2 heads because you want rear protection too.

that's a joke right? they're kidding, right?

....it's cheaper to get a bunch of tickets.....
then again, if they are sending a tech up through the exhaust to wire it...it makes perfect sense.

Yup

Wish I was kidding on quoted price. Spoke with Tom and based on what he said may wait and install an AL Priority System.

I have laser (really infrared light) blinders on my 991. Other than false alarms, it hasn't gone off in 18 months of out of state travel as they don't use them in PA. The radar detector is great and provides ample notice.

My dealer installed the whole shebang for $750.

Find another installer

Depends on what speed you are going. Some speeds will land you a suspended license and that will be pretty costly. Other speeds could get you a criminal record.

Insurance can also be a factor. The insurance impact over 3 years is 3-4x the cost of the ticket.

To me if you are a serious performance car driver, then this is less about cost and more about system performance. My system is about $3500 installed. To me that is a cheap price for freedom to drive like in Germany. FWIW I would run an Antilaser Priority with an STIR+ antenna if I was doing this today. It's actually pretty reasonable I think.

That price is in the range of what the total install cost is here in Vancouver.

Pennsylvania State Trooper issued Certificates of Achievement can usually be guilty plea bargained down to a no point "5 mph" over the limit or "disobey traffic control device - 75 PS 3111 - if you aren't driving like a complete idiot. I have appeared for corporate officer's clients in Magisterial District Court over the past 34 years and if the client was polite to the Trooper and cooperative and, here is the key: OWNED UP TO THE FACT THAT THEY WERE SPEEDING, the cop has always allowed a guilty plea to a no point offense.

... in these parts (Pennsylvania) if you are getting into suspended license territory and potential criminal (that is, misdemeanor - one step above summary offense, one step below felony) citation, you are traveling way too fast on a public highway. The roads around here are generally not safe at insane speeds as they are in poor shape and the other drivers are at best unpredictable.

I had the escort installed because I'm probably a little paranoid and not because I believe that I can drive at 105 on a consistent basis and believe that I can beat both the reaper and the Troopers. I use it because (1) I generally travel 10-15 over the limit in a state where the police will spot you 10 and the statute actually states that Trooper (and only Troopers can use radar here) cannot cite you unless you are exceeding 6 over the posted limit and (2) they're going to pull over the pretty porsche and not the mini cooper that is passing me.

At 15 over my Escort gives me lots of warning and, in 20 months I have not earned even one certificate.

Be safe out there...http://nypost.com/2011/10/28/jackass...s-fatal-crash/ and http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz...k-driving.html both happened a few miles from my home.
