Crazy idea??

Having read some reviews and comments on the Macan, particularly the Turbo, am I crazy to start thinking that this could be a replacement to my Carrera? Anyone else have this "crazy" thought?

It's a SUV, not a sports car. Porsche marketing is really doing it's job by the number of ppl thinking it's not a SUV.

I don't understand why anyone would buy one of these. Why wouldn't you just get a sedan? M3, M5, S4, S6, S7, S8, C63, E63, Panamera...shall I keep going? The Macan is a heavier sedan on stilts built for grandpas that can get down low enough to get in a real car. Sorry...

The market for this type of car definitely exists. A ton of people complain (to my disbelief) about a Cayenne being too big of an SUV. Enter the Macan.

Though, to repeat Stalker's point, Porsche is doing a great job advertising this car as a "sports" car. I, for the life of me, cannot understand why anyone would consider it one.

And no, OP, please do not look at a Macan as a 911 replacement.

Asking this question in a 991 forum is a pointless exercise with predictable responses.

If you feel it's worth your while (given your particular needs) then go for it and let us know how it goes. We may all learn something from this endeavor.

Why would a SUV or station wagon or whatever the Macon is supposed to be be a replacement?

It is such an apples and oranges comparison it is hard to even respond..

Might consider Honda odyssey minivan as
Well..

That would be a huge jump. Unless you need the additional space, don't do it! Not going to be the same experience.

I'm thinking a Macan S for my second car. I would not consider it a replacement to a sports coupe. Very excited to take one out on a test drive.

While I agree that it's not a replacement for a sports car, it does offer one thing that sedans and station wagons do not -- ride height. While 991 owners probably don't place value on it (see stilts comment above), others like my wife do. She feels safer higher up and appreciates the visibility, unlike in our cars where we are looking up at the door handles on the cars around us. My wife's thinking of turning in her (new!) SQ5 for a Macan Turbo. Tough for me to argue when she just signed off on my 50th, which might have been her plan all along.

Appreciate all the comments, have now taken my meds which should alleviate the "crazy bug" :-)

Everything aside, I'll be interested to see how it drives as - cheers!
