Carrera S great deal
2012 991....almost three model years old .....It is a $77-79K car if buying today, since it is not CPO'd .
Most expensive regular production used cars have higher profit / unit than new since buyer has no idea how much dealer bought it for, so there is no haggling relative invoice, holdbacks, trunk money etc.as as a new car

Agreed, CPO is great (although I have had it removed from cars to save money when I didn't feel it was necessary). The m5 was a "demo" car so I was the first titled owner and it was unable to be CPOd. Oh well.
The thing about selling a car to Carmax is that you then have to pay sales tax on the car you purchase. I don't know the rules in other states but in Florida if you trade in a car you only pay tax on the difference. This can be a lot of money saved.
I'll share my experience. I bought my '12 C2S used last year for $88k ($120k MSRP) with 6k miles and all the right options. After driving it for a year and 11.5K on the odo, last week I decided to sell it before the Arizona summer heat and buy a '15 WRX STI that I could drive to work instead of driving my Mini. Carmax offered me $78k and said that it was a hit or miss car for them. The Subaru dealer gave me $80k and with another $3k and change in tax savings on the STI I thought I walked away with a fair deal. That said, to the O.P. I don't think that 6 speed for $83k is such a smoking price.

You read correctly sir. Since driving a 991 to work was not appropriate, I wanted something fun to drive to work and my Mini countryman was utterly worthless for the job. For weekend stints I'll be looking for more exotic mules. P.S. the STI is one of the funnest cars I've ever owned.
