It's hard for me to get accustomed to going 9000-10,000 miles before the first oil change.

I've changed the oil (non-synthetic) in my old Porsche every 2500 miles. It also requires adjustment of the mechanical lifters every 5000 miles.

The light went on because the car was at the 2 year anniversary.

Well, now you have!

My understanding was that it was about $2,700.00 for the 5 year plan. I paid nothing as it was part of the car that I purchased used. It transferred with the VIN. I just used it for its 2nd servicing...3 more free servicing's to go!

But with my 991, there is more to it than cost. I just simply like doing it myself. That being said, I don't understand the high cost charged being justified, knowing what I know about the procedure.

For comparison sake, here is what I spent recently to do my own change at 3,700 miles:

Qty 1 Porsche Oil Change "Kit" incl filter, gasket, washer $22
Qty 2 Mobil 1 0W-40 Oil in 5 Quart Jugs from Walmart $75.96 (37.98 ea)

That brought my total materials cost to $97.96

I can't recall how long it took me -- I got the car up on ramps, started draining the old oil, got on a conf call for an hour, came back to the car and it was done draining. Took me about 30 minutes after that to do the rest, including adding 9 quarts new oil after I put the new filter on.

Just my "experience" comparison for reference. To each his/her own....
Loved the "free" service from BMW on my M3 for several years. Funny. You actually thought the service from BMW was free. Nothing is "free" It was priced in the car my friend.

I had a BMW before and did like the idea of not laying out additional money for oil changes, wiper blades, I even had the brakes and rotors done for "free".
