Back to the lovely 911 world!
I chose the 911 simply because I just had a Cayman S. I can only hope that I like it as much. if not, it will be gone and a new Cayman will be in the garage. The Cayman S is the best car I have owned to date, period. It was extremely fun and nimble, sounds great, plenty of room, just a real blast to drive. When buying the Vette, I brought it home for 3 days before actually buying it so I could keep driving the Cayman and Vette back to back. I know that the Cayman was the better of the two cars. I was just willing to take a chance and see if a muscle/sports car could/would make me happy. When it comes down to it, the Corvette is "America's Sports Car", but what America has always been good at is Muscle Cars and the Vette is nothing but a great handling muscle car, IMO. It is a great car, please don't get me wrong. It just isn't the same. It isn't as nimble, it isn't as fun, you are not looking for an excuse to just go out and drive, somewhere, anywhere, just to drive. I had several C6 Vettes including a Carbon Edition ZO6 and I liked them all but never LOVED any except for my very first C6 which I spent a ton of money on to make it "my car" and it was unique, sounded great, was comfortable, handled incredibly well, did everything well. I still regret getting rid of it. Given the choice between it and the Cayman though, Cayman would win every time. You just can't go wrong with a Cayman S and you don't need to add a ton of options to make it an incredible car. I hope that I love this 911 as much as my Cayman. In my mind, I loved my last 991 911 as much as the Cayman, just always wanted a bit more power. This is why I bought this 911 S. But if it doesn't make me feel the same as the Cayman, it will be gone in a matter of weeks.
Keep us posted!! I was also deciding between ordering a 2015 Cayman GTS, or getting a 991S. Looking like I'm going the 991S route, but always good to hear other peoples experiences! Thanks.
If I was prepared to have two expensive cars in my garage at the same time, I would have perhaps kept the Corvette too. But the days of having 9 cars in the garage and spending all that money are done for me. I proved to myself and my ego I could do it, but at this point in my life I try to have only one "fun" car that can also be used as a DD during the nice days and one "regular" car for the days that my back and legs are not able to drive a manual and get in/out of that "sports" car. It is only recent that I was able to go back to a manual car and one that is more difficult to get in/out of due to major back surgery (with more to come) and the time may be limited to how much longer I can drive a manual and have a low car. My DD is a 14' Chevrolet SS, many on here may not even know what it is. But is is basically a 4 door C6. It is a Holden Commodore SSV. It is big and comfortable and fast and handles great even forgetting what a bog car it is. It is a very basic looking car, a sleeper if you will. Which I love. I am not a flashy person but unfortunately for me all the cars I love are flashy attention getters. I truly hate the attention. You will get more in a ZO6 then a 911, I believe. Everyone wanted to see it, photograph it, etc. That will dies down as they become more common or until the ZO6's start showing up.
I don't think you can go wrong with a ZO6, it is sure to be an incredible car. GM did such a tremendous job with the new C7. Fit and finish, interior, everything about it. Still some cheapness to it, but nothing like what they used to be. The paint quality is ok and would be much better if they had taken the time to smooth out the panels before they painted them. I am sure with time they will have those issues worked out, but regardless, it is sure to be a really great car and super enjoyable to drive.
Bottom line, I missed how nimble the Cayman S was and think the 911 is only slightly less as nimble and offers the same overall drivers experience. It was quick, small, comfortable, had such a beautiful sound to it and was just FUN more then anything else. I loved driving it. There was not a single time I did not have a smile on my face when driving that car. Didn't matter if it was pouring out, stuck in traffic, whatever, it was fun to drive. About as pure of a drivers car that you can buy today, again, IMO. The 911 as I said, in my mind/memory was as good and I just wanted a bit more power with the S will offer. It also offers a bit more room that is convenient to get to while driving (backseat) while the Cayman, even though it was open all the way to the back, you could not easily (or at all) get something from behind the motor while driving but you could toss stuff back there when driving. The Cayman offered a huge amount of storage actually and the 911 will offer a little more.
But back to the point, if you love muscle cars, which it appears you do (as do I) and you love sports cars, which clearly you do, the ZO6 should be a great car for you. I think the Corvette ZO6 and even the regular C7 to some point are one of the only cars that you can call both a muscle car and a sports car.
Hope this helps a bit?
I am with you! If the Cayman GTS were out right now, I would have purchased one without any thought. There is no choice IMO. I wanted to get rid of the Vette while some people are still paying over sticker and some/most are at sticker with only few exceptions. I paid $3k under sticker for mine and sold it for sticker. If I could have waited, a GTS would have been my next car and it may very well be my next car after this one if I don't love it as much as I did my Cayman. Everything that you read about the Cayman in all the magazines is true. It is just an absolute, perfectly put together, joyful and soulful car and there is nothing on the market that can compete with it IMO. It is a car you can easily use for a daily driver and then go to the track with when you want. It didn't feel it needed more power but always wished it had a bit more. Just a great car and I think the best looking car made by Porsche at the moment. If you stand and look at a 14 or up Cayman from the side, in the right color and right lighting, it is just an absolute piece of art. It is the one car I have ever regretted selling out of all the cars I have ever owned. I also owned that car longer then any other car I have ever owned since I was a kid. I kept it 7 months, which for me (and I know it is sad) is a long time. I had a moment of weakness the day I saw that C7 and I knew I should have held on to the Cayman but I also knew if I bought the Vette I would keep it for a few months and buy another Cayman. Instead I kept it for 3 weeks and ended up with a 911s which I am super excited about, think it is just a beautiful car and a joy to drive. Only some real seat time will decide if I should place an order for a GTS Cayman and enjoy the 911s until it shows up. I don't think you can go wrong with either car, they are both fantastic. Just from what I have read about the 911S though, I would tend to believe the Cayman is the better "drivers" car. Every article about the Cayman is nothing but praise while the 911 it is praise but at the same time most are saying it has lost something. I guess I will see. I am so very hopeful that this car is everything I think the Cayman was because it is just so good looking and love everything about it (except the steering wheel) but everyone seems to think I should keep it. may have to at least switch to one without the Carbon Fiber on it. I hate having the slick feeling on a steering wheel. When your hands are sweating and your wedding ring is constantly "clanking" on it, just drives me nuts.
a) too much power IMO. I like to be able to use the power I have available
b) more important, PDK only. I LOVE driving a manual and since I know my time is limited to driving one I just can't pass up on the opportunity to own one now.

Thanks. Honestly, my first two choices were yellow or white. Something about a white 911! Love the yellow too and my Cayman S was yellow. My 14' Audi RS5 was almost this same color blue and when I came across it and saw that it had the red interior I had to pull the trigger. I am a sucker for the red interior which is strange because when I was younger and saw cars with red interior I was always thinking to myself "what were they thinking?" but now, in my more mature age (LOL) I just think nothing is sexier then the red interior.
I normally wouldn't think of blue with red but there is a Guy on the Cayman Forum I am a member of who special ordered his with all red leather and I loved the look. Plus Superman can drive it!

Congratulations dadz911 ... I agree white is a beautiful colour for the 991 but that blue is stunning! IMO the interior colour only gets seen by the occupants in a coupe so go with what you like! Hope you enjoy the blend of comfort and sport as i have... I couldn't be happier with my first p-car
It has the sport exhaust. For me is isn't even an option. The sound is just so beautiful that comes from it. Sure you can always go aftermarket for the exhaust but to me, the factory sport exhaust just sounds perfect and isn't obnoxious at all.
My bad. Forgot with the ducktail that the rear spoiler button is removed. Well it is a wonderful car. And I agree completely sports exhaust is mandatory. Drive in good health bud.
Beautiful car. I love the red interior on Saphire Blue. Really sweet. The carbon fiber interior package also looks neat (especially the trim around the center console, cupholders, door trim, etc.) but I hear your concern about carbon on the steering wheel. Either way, the car is stunning. Congrats, and welcome back into the fold!
Dadz911, thanks for the great reply! I am truly a car enthusiast. Import and domestic. Lots of models that I find interesting from all different periods of time. It's a horrible addiction!!
You are right, there is a time commitment in owning these cars. There are only a few of these cars that I can see keeping really long term. As morbid as it may seem; the plan is to hand down one car to each of my children when I pass on...
