Does driving a Porsche ever make you feel socially awkward?
I wonder how OP feels about driving to work, haha. I have read a lot of posts where owners feel there is some stigma attached to Porsche ownership. People hear Porsche and assume $100k+ price tags. They don't realize that you can get a fairly recent P-Car that looks modern and is just a few hundred a month more than a Honda Odyssey. I know many people who waste a few hundred a month on frivolous purchases but would still make comments about how they wish they could have a Porsche. @SoCalSteve- We can just ignore your comments because you even put "LOOK" at me stickers on your bike, haha. There is a local guy in So Cal who has a red cayman who throws his mountain bike on top. Need to do what you need to do. In Orange County, Porsches are pretty common so they are not that much of a neck breaker. I am an enthusiast so I always like to check them out though. However, it took my wife a couple weeks to get used to driving her car to work. Her Cayenne has been her dream car for years. When looking for a new car for her, she wanted a Honda Fit or a Cayenne. She isn't in it for the publicity and the show (as noted in her second car choice, haha) She loves how it looks and now she loves everything about it from the attention to detail on the inside to the purr of the engine. She actually just said, "I love how my car purrs."
Around here, Corvettes hardly get a second look. I think my personal plate gets more attention than the car does, actually. FASTRNU.
I live in Atlanta in the North Side, and in my area, Porsches are not uncommon either. Most of my neighbors have Mercedes, BMWs etc. I even have a neighbor with a 997 GT3. Next door neighbor has a MB SL55 AMG. My TTS turns heads, but usually with younger folks.

My city has a population of 77K and the per capita income is $24K so a 991 TTS would be a rare sight. I get looks and stares when I take it out. The younger crowd of males immediately recognize the "S" after the turbo. In its own way the S designation has some status. I feel good driving it and am proud I own a Porsche.
I'm in London and got a bit of unwelcome attention in my 987 Boxster S. Slightly surprisingly, since having the car wrapped in brushed black it's been nothing but positive. Remains to be seen what will happen when I take delivery of a 991 GTS cab in April! 😊
Two unrelated observations: 1) I'm not sure about that Lambo video. The guy got, like, nothing but compliments and love (apart from from the cops!), and driving something like that (v different from any porsche) I'm not sure what he was expecting.
2) Young kids go mental when they see my car. And really young (like, under 4 years old) girls go just as nuts pointing and tugging on their parents' legs as boys. Once they're a bit older, only the boys do, the girls presumably having been told they're supposed to be into dolls.

Yesterday i was driving through a neighborhood to a friends house and a kid walking his dog with his mom yelled out "Oh my god its a Lamborghini!"
Awkward.
when i see people looking at my car i normally wave at them, don't want to be an A*. especially to kids, that is because i remember when i was a kid and looking at a cool car drops my jaws and want to be just like them when i grow up.
clearly remember one time i was staring at a diablo at the stop light, and the guy opened up his vertical door and waved and smiled at me. those things will make a kid's day

When I was a kid in the 80's I used to worship the Countach. I would practice drawing them from every angle I could, built models, read every article. One day at a car show there was a yellow one there with the owner. He was a real jerk. He ignored me, wouldn't answer any questions, pretended to be busy. I'll never forget that.
Recently in the parking lot of the base exchange a young boy was tugging on his mothers pants pointing at the "Ferrari" that I just parked. She was trying to explain that it was a Porsche and the kid kept insisting. She looked at me to settle the dispute and I just shrugged and said it was a Ferrari. I didn't want to break the kid's heart.
While pumping gas, another woman offered me her white minivan complete with two children in exchange for my Boxster. I made a few polite jokes and chatted for a minute or two before leaving. It's nice to feel like a star so I try to act like one. I never feel awkward though...
Cheers,
Patrick
