Zunsport Grill – Review and donor experience

There is a thread on the grills from Zunsport in the 997 forum but not here in 991. I'd like to report my experience.

I was interested in installing front grills to the air intake at the front of the car to protect the radiators as they are wide open to stone damage. I found some good reviews of Zunsport grills and contacted them. As they did not have grills for the 991, I became the first 991 (C4S) donor car for them to take the mould and make the grills. So they now have grills for the 911 C4(S), but for other 991 variants they are still looking for donors. They ship to the US quickly.

So in February 2014 I took my car to the Zunsport shop to allow them to take the mould. Peter Langston is the owner and he is very nice and honest. He talked me through the manufacture process and showed me their workshop. It is a family business and they manufacture grills for Jaguar and many other brands.

A few weeks later Peter contacted me to let me know that the prototype grills are ready. I went to their shop again and they fitted the prototype to my car. You can see the picture and they look very nice. They fitted almost perfectly but being prototypes some minor adjustments are required. They came to my house to examine the grills and advised me that they will obtain new clips and make a new set of grills (off the final jig) and fit that to my car.

This is what I’m up to currently and I’ll write an update when the final grills are fitted to my car.

Overall it’s a very pleasant experience and it could be a good deal to get a free set of grills if you are close to Cannock Staffordshire, UK.

NB: I’m not related to Zunsport in anyway. Just a happy customer.

Have had ZUNSPORT grilles on both my 996 and 997.2 and loved them. Hopefully they will have them for the NA Grilles with parking sensors in near future.

I purchased a set for my 996 turbo a few months ago and found only the center grill to fit nicely. The side grills were a nightmare with the edges sticking out and looking horrible. I ended up grinding off the tabs and doing a custom job. All in all, they look good now, but no where near a simple install they claim. Hopefully for the 991 its a nicer fit.

I looked at the few options available for the 991 cars, and ultimately decided to DIY. For those that missed it, check out the 991 Radiator Grill Mesh Installation thread over in the DIY section. Heck of a lot more fun, and less money on top of that!

Not taking anything away from Zunsport -- I think with refinement, their grill styling options can look great. However I chose to put grills in place that looked like they belonged there from factory, not tacked-in with some screws from the outside.

Please post pics of the final product when installed!
