Yellowing, grubby stone guard sticker

Just wondering whether anyone else is bothered by the yellowing, soiled stone guard sticker in front of the rear wheel arch? Especially evident on white cars. Are there any solutions out there? What about replacements... where can I get new ones to replace the old?

Any film protection installer will be able to remove the old and create/install the new. Using material by SunTek, Xpel or similar will avoid the yellowing effect that comes standard with the OEM versions.

Thanks for that addysdaddy! Have you personally had experience with Xpel? Just found an installer in Kuala Lumpur where I live that carries the Xpel product. Does their film look completely transparent and is resistant to yellowing? Am thinking maybe I should do the car's nose as well before my next track day...

If you're talking about XPEL Ultimate, then it's one of the best on the market. To my knowledge, there is no film on the market that doesn;t yellow over time. But the degree of yellowing, can be very minor compared to the inferior material used on the OEM piece on Porsches. XPEL Ultimate will be clearer and will perform much better.

No, my installer recommended SunTek so that's what got installed on the front grille and the materials for the stone guard replacements as my OEMs yellowed within 45 days. Very pleased but I'm sure Xpel is the same thing only different. haha. Spend the time selecting a quality installer and less thinking about which material is best. Throw a dart - both are excellent.

Go Suntek.

The OEM ones are made by 3M. Obviously inferior to Suntek or XPEL, with Suntek having a slight advantage.

Another thing you can do is to change to a black stone guard and you won't get the yellowing problem. I think it looks good on a white car, but it is personal taste. The issue I had with the clear guards was the dirt that accumulated on the leading edge of the guard. Very noticeable on a white car and a real pain to clean.

Yeah I saw the black film guards on one of the cars here in this forum. Maybe it's your's? I'm kinda 50-50 about it aesthetically speaking.

As a stop gap, take some spray lube & clay bar to the film - you might be surprised.

My installer sells both and recommends the SunTek because:
1. Better polymer protection coat
2. Better self healing
3. Smoother surface.

He says the OEM will yellow but the SunTek and Xpel shouldn't. He said he's never had a warranty replacement with the SunTek. My SunTek took a heck of a rock hit just forward of the rear wheel. The crash was so loud, I thought there would be a dent. I did have to replace the film, but no damage to the paint. I have no complaints after two years.

I had my stone guards removed last week by the local Porsche Certified body shop. I have the magnetic ones (which are larger) to put on.

The magnetic ones are available from www.magnagraphik.com Contact is Dan Porter who's email is utopia@cinci.rr.com

They are similar to the ones Turbos used to have and come in many colours/designs. Not expensive. I have a white car and have a set of Red and set of white and change depending on mood but tend to have the red on most of the time. About 20% larger than factory and of course easy to remove and reattach.
