Question Launches without Launch Control

I have a 991 PDK C2 without sport chrono | sport plus | launch control.

But I still think it kinda launches when I floor the pedal off the line.

The revs seem to 'jump' almost immediately to 4,000rpm as it gets traction and starts moving and there is absolutely no wheel spin or squealing at all.

Is the car 'slipping the clutch' for me to achieve a perfect launch? Is that why the RPM seems to remain constant for the first second or so?

Also, if I leave the PDK in automatic it seems to shift into 2nd well before it redlines in 1st.

That's what I call mini-launch control. In launch control the RPMs go to the 6000 area. It does slip the clutch just like in launch control and I'm assuming the reason they do it is to get on the torque and HP curves. You don't quite get the power of launch control, but it does the job just fine.

The power curve indicates that after it shifts into 2nd, RPMs should be at 6400 or above to be on the peak of the HP curve (6400-7500).

Nice! I like that. Mini-launch control. Fast enough for me.

Yep, gives a little extra performance and if you did that with a manual clutch you would be spending $4-5000 for a new clutch job frequently.

Here's a dumb question. Why does slipping the clutch on a manual wear out the clutch, but slipping the clutch(es) on a PDK can be done thousands of times with no wear & tear. I know the PDK clutches are bathed in oil, but if this is what does it why aren't manual clutches bathed in oil. Sorry for the dumb question.

Lots of motorcycles use this technique, but most cars don't. You would have to have a containment area to hold the oil and probably a cooling system, all of which add weight and cost. In the past the torque need was solved with displacement, now PDK provides the solution.
