991 vs 997???

I have been very happy with my 2007 911, and I am now ready for a move up to something newer. I don't want to buy new and I don't want a Turbo.

I am currently considering the following and am wondering what people think in terms of resale down the road, cost of ownership, and best value:
- 2012 911 S (991 body)
- 2012 911 GTS (997)
- 2013 911 4S - 991 wide body, but >$10K more expensive than options above

How much is the new 991 body worth?
Are there problems with 1st year 991?

I love the way the new 991 looks, but I really like the wide body style of the GTS or 4S. I would like to stick to a price point of $80K or so, and I know I cannot get a 2013 4S for that price.

They're all great options......

Thanks.

I'd take the 2012 if you can get it for 80K and wait for a used 991 GTS.

I would go with the 12 C2S but 80k might be ambitious for a clean low mile example. You are in the 991 forum though and I am sure a lot of folks in the 997 forum will tell you the 997.2 GTS was the best of the outgoing model. The 991 C2S is going to be faster than the 997 GTS and more comfortable. The interior is a big step up as well. If you have not driven one then I would encourage you to do so. The evolution to some of the 997 folks comes across as too refined but after my second 991 I absolutely love them. It is a perfect DD.

In September of 2013 I was looking at a 2012 911 S with a 127kish Msrp for 84k. Under 7k miles no CPO warranty (not from a Porsche dealership). I ended up going another route. I would definitely be looking to pay around 85k for a 2013 cpod S or 80k if not (provided Msrp was over 125k). 4s' will always be a bit more but bring some numbers to the table and you should be able to negotiate a good deal. There are plenty of cars out there to choose from make sure you wait and find the one with the options you want. Good luck!

why?

I think you need to decide what it is that you want, and not worry so much about resale. Either way the cars are going to depreciate, and we're not talking about a 930 or 993. The difference between the two will be negligible. If you want to experience the least amount of depreciation, then buy the cheapest car that you can afford. A base 997 with no options, for example.

I went from a 997 to a 991, and they are totally different animals. I prefer the 991 because of the comfort and improved technology, but plenty of people prefer the 997 because it is more "raw" and has more character.
