Radar Detectors

I wanted to start a discussion of the Escort or the radar detectors for the 911. Are they worth the $? Thank you for your opinions.

+1 just don't let it go to your head that you are superman and NOT hit the brakes driving 100 past a radar trap. When you get the alarm 1 mile before the trap you start to get complacent

My last ticket was courtesy of instant-on radar. I know it was instant-on because my detector went on, instantly, and I was caught.

Yes, detectors are helpful, but they're not fool-proof and the installed ones are very expensive. It will take a few tickets to pay for itself.

For me it's cheaper to just pay my lawyer a few hundred bucks to handle it for me, and I get no insurance points. Plus, no worries about all of those annoying beeps.

I use the Escort Passport Max. It has worked as advertised. The unit has paid for itself in three months.

Here in Western WA State "instant on" is the norm.....all you can hope for is that the trooper sends out a burst on a car that's well in front of yours and your detector responds.

The V-1 gets a lot of bad rep because of false alarms/too sensitive etc, but
has saved me enough times that I trust it.

Escort 9500 attached to the rear view mirror and hard wired to the driver side fuse box. Saved me a few times, but I am pretty cautious for the most part.

Escort 9500 clipped to the passenger side sun visor and hard wired to the passenger side fuse box. Most LEO around here seem to use Ka band radar, and it's dead on accurate with its warnings. Still no substitute for situational awareness.

My loyal V1 has been great to me. In 12+ years of owning V1s, knockwood I have never gotten stopped for speeding. I always know where LE is and by listening to the tones can tell if there is instant on ahead when someone else way up gets shot by the radar. Mike Valentine does a great job with R&D IMO and periodically when new technology comes out he will upgrade your unit for a reasonable price.
