How to keep a new Porsche steering wheel looking and feeling NEW!

Guys and girls, what is the best way to keep that great new steering wheel feeling and looking brand new? Also, how about that new car smell?

Steering wheel doesn't seem to show wear after two years. Chemical Guys sell a leather cleaner with a tanned leather smell

That's a new one. My 991 C4 has the Sport Wheel and my P4S has the wood and leather multi-function wheel and neither show any wear and tear as far as I can tell. My best advice is hold on tight and enjoy! As for the "new car smell", I've had the C4 for about a year and the P4S for almost 3 years and all I can smell is leather when inside. I vacuum the carpets 2-3 times/week and wash and clean them inside and out about weekly. Also, they are both garaged. So, I think if you keep them clean, especially the carpets, and in a clean area when not being used, that should do it. But, like I said earlier, make sure you get out and enjoy!

I use golf gloves. It's a better feel and the wheel stays new because I don't get my moist, greasy, dirty hands all over it. I also don't carry fast food in the car or get in it when I'm sweaty and the car still smells like new after 2 1/2 years.

What happens if you have to pass some gas. Do you stop and jump out?

Not if you drank a pint of the "new car smell" product from Chem Guys above.

+1 on the "just keep it clean". I vacuum the carpets once a week when it's doing DD duty (DDD) and always clean the steering wheel when I'm doing other interior cleaning/dusting. I use Griot's interior cleaner. It works on everything - vinyl, cloth, carpets, leather.

Cleaning body oils off it and applying conditioner every couple months should do the trick.

Porsche sells a interior leather cleaner and conditioner. Also, watch those rings too since the leather scratches easily.

991 interiors have been wearing really well with no signs of accelerated wear from what we've seen. Just be careful with using lotion etc, on your hands.

Now if you want to talk about bad steering wheel wear don't get me started on the alcantara wheels on the GT3s....lol!

I like to use Woolite diluted 20:1 or more with water. I keep a spray bottle full in my garage to touch up minor spills and dribbles. It removes body oils, doesn't streak and won't damage leather. Rub in sparingly with a microfiber cloth.

Hey mjb....Griot's SUCKs. Its nothing but re-branded product at full retail - you should know that!

I'm in the leather biz boyz n' gurls, I hate to burst your speciality cleaner bubble but all you really need to do to the leather on your steering wheel is take a damp cloth (not wet) put a swipe of Ivory bar soap on it, clean it and then use another damp cloth to get it off. Not too much soap, not too much water.

I know, its not glamourous, and its cheap. LOL....but thats how ya do it.

Keeping the leather clean is far more critical than applying conditioners. Every time you wash the car, wipe the steering wheel down with your damp drying rag, that gets off a lot of dirt and hand oils. That alone will do more than all the fancy leather care products you can buy.

You won't go wrong with a Conditioner, applied after the leather is clean. There are a number of quality products out there, get one for topcoated leather. I use Leather Magic myself, its pretty popular in the trade. Leather Master products are another good source.

The shiny black sport wheel was one of the ugliest parts of my 997. I couldn't wait to replace it. The new wheel completely renewed the look of my interior. The old one must have been used by someone who never wore gloves. Now that it looks so nice and new, I'm going to start using the Ivory soap trick.
