Dealer deposit
Dealer deposit
What is the usual amount to put down for a deposit if you want a car built from the factory? Also does it matter if the car is a bare bone 911 or a fully loaded Turbo S? And if you change or finances change is the deposit refundable?
Usually you are using one of their allocations to order. So as long as your build characteristics are such that the car can be sold if you bail out they don't seem to be all that demanding.
If it was a low allocation car, or you picked something that is far from mainstream taste I suspect your deposit may be higher.
Method of financing/lease didn't even get discussed until day I came in. They run a credit check on you when you place the order, just to validate you can afford but that was it.

I've ordered a Cayenne GTS and a 911 TT and was never asked for a deposit. I was surprised (in my prior experience with BMWs there was always a token deposit e.g. $500) but everything worked out.
So I was requested to put $5k down on a 2015 Turbo order. And non refundable at that. Not an unusual car in terms or colors/options so the car should be very saleable. And now because of financial situations I need to cancel the order. I was hoping since I have bought a number of Porsches in the last couple years and service my cars at this dealership that they would return my money. I will be buy another Porsche in 6-10 months, and I will still need service on my wifes Porsche as well. As well as my future business at this dealership would provide them income, when there are a lot of choices these days. $5k in the Porsche world in not a lot of money.
I gave them a 2007 C2 and about $30K. They gave me a 2009 C2S to drive until my 991 came in. When it came in, I paid the balance and gave them back the 2009.

Chuck sounds like a great dealership in Dallas, I assume. Should have moved to Texas. I go to Austin enough on business.
I have changed my mind and cancelled 2 orders in the last 15 years and had no problems getting instant refund of deposit (most recently 5k for a TT order when I bought an in stock TTS instead from another dealer). May be different in different states but if you didn't sign anything stating otherwise you should be able to get the deposit back.
When I special ordered a 2013 C2S, I put down a $1,000 refundable deposit. This past summer, I ordered a 2015 TT from the same dealership, and wasn't asked to put down any deposit. Either way, deposits put down on a special order car should in most states be refundable.
You would think that the deposit is refundable regardless of what they said, but according to Porsche (1-800-PORSHCE) they said it remains up to the dealership.
That's a lot of money for the dealer to hold for (assuming 3 or 4 months for the build time). But then again, you sorta got an upgraded car to drive during that time. So maybe not such a bad deal..
I would agree, but I'd also laugh in the face at a dealer that said a deposit was non-refundable. Buuh - Byyy...
If so that seems pretty shady to me, what legitimate Porsche dealer would put more value on $5k over a repeat client and the potential negative PR?
For the record I was asked to put down $2500 (Canadian no less) on an ordered car and it was fully refundable.
