Complete Fabspeed Setup

I finally completed the Fabspeed setup. I originally started with the PSE and Maxflo mufflers. I had the xpipe and headers installed today. Still needing a little bit to break in, I can say my initial impressions are good. The first thing I noticed was that at 3-4k RPM @ 75-80 MPH on the highway, there is no drone. Rather impressive. I got on it a few times, felt more responsive and has a very, very, very refined tone. Well worth it, in my opinion.

I have the FS x-pipe and 200 cel sport headers currently installed. I hadn't decided which muffler to install as I had the Brombacher (with the FS x-pipe) on the .2 and it sounded stunning! Would like to hear a sound clip when you can.

When you say "complete" FS setup, do you also have their cold air intake? Any concerns with heat soak?

toddcc1 & DallasDave,

What do you think is best for improving sound tone (not loudness);
Headers or Exhaust?

Do the dealers document the headers on your service tickets, or are they cool about it?

I did not do the CAI. So, no concerns with heat soak. I'll post up a clip once the cats break in.

Per the sound, the Maxflo mufflers, with the PSE didn't alter too much. If I had to guess though, I would say the headers do, as it swaps the OEM 800 cat for a much less restrictive 200 cat.

I don't know if they document it. They don't throw CELs and the OEM sensors screw back into the CATs.

Hi Lunarx -

The sound tone is subjective to each individual, but I will offer my thoughts since you asked.

My path-
I first installed the x-pipe almost immediately after picking the car up. I thought it sounded nice. I then installed an IPD plenum and didn't notice a significant change in sound.

Then I installed the sport headers and honestly DON'T like the sound at mid-rpm. I think it sounds like a mad weed wacker. At WOT in the higher rpm range it does scream. Keep in mind that the IPD plenum is impacting my results.

I will be installing the exhaust of some kind soon - I'm leaning towards the Fabspeed Maxflo to complete the system, but I REALLY liked the sound of the Brombacher street sport (with Fabspeed's xpipe) on the .2 cab. Top down underpass was intoxicating.

As far as the dealer, we are fortunate to have a skilled technician at Porsche Plano that encourages tinkering. Jon is a weekend race warrior so I get no pushback as I'm an habitual tinkerer (mod nut). It keeps me from needing to switch vehicles more often since I get bored easily. I am (still) enthusiastic with the 991 as my favorite daily driver to date.

Hope this helps - DoubleD aka Dave in Dallas
