Amelia Island

Is anyone going to Amelia Island next week?
We were invited to bring or black SL55 to the Cars and Coffee at the Concour.
Then on Sunday afternoon I will be a class host for the race cars.
Hope to see some of you there.

I'll be getting there on Thursday. I got the notice about the SL display but don't have an SL. I contacted the local PCA club about going to the C&C with them but they were keeping their allocation for their concours volunteers.

Just hope the forecast weather doesn't put a damper on the weekend. Seeing the cars in the ballrooms isn't quite the same.

I am getting into town tomorrow night. going to the auctions, C & C and the the concours. I heard that Don Williams is going to have a large tent at the concours field filled with exotic cars for sale.

I did take some pictures but I have to do quite a bit of editing before I could attempt to post them. If you have never been and have the opportunity it is a fantastic experience. 4 car auctions with incredible cars. Hollywood wheels had an auction with one day solely Porsches - unfortunately I did not see very many sell. Bonhams sale was first year and had some good cars but nothing that I fell in love with. Gooding had some great cars at their auction including 1959 Maserati raced by Sterling Moss - what a sound - did not sell with a high bid of $4M. RM also had some great cars that brought some really big money - most incredible sale was a 2008 Ferrari 599 with a manual trans - sold for around $600K. Outside the Ritz Carlton were a number of manufacturers with cars that you could drive including Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Jaguar and Infiniti. The concours leaves you speechless as there are so many cars which you would never see anywhere else. If you do go you should pay for the early entrance ticket as once the whole crowd gets in it gets really crowded.

I called in to see the catalog estimates on the 356s and they were ridiculous at over 200K. Needless to say, I didn't bid.
