It's actually one of the factory options for the 991.2.

Chuck, those lil indents have been on the 991 Turbo models since they came out. A styling "feature" I think.
I don't think anybody really knows what size engine the 991.2 Carrera S will have - I've heard 3.0 all the way to a 3.8 liter. Either way I bet it's a big jump in torque at the low end.
Porsche has released official images the Porsche 911 facelift and the pic's are identical to those posted here - BBQ grate and all.

Porsche has announced it will be "3.0" (some think actually 2.9 to get under Chinese tax thresholds), twin turbo. More HP, like 420- 450 have been bandied about along with reports about obvious increases in midrange torque.
If Porsche uses a 3.6L engine for the Cayenne and the Macan Turbo why would they use a 3.0L in the 911 S? It doesnt seem logical...
There is no replacement.... you know the rest !
But lets see.

Apples to oranges, the 911 uses a flat six and the Macan/Cayenne has a V6.
I agree with your premise (I believe) that by today's standards these numbers are quite underwhelming (enough for most, but not for those who like to push the accelerator and feel longitudinal G's). For those that like that feeling of power, the new Turbo (and a little more the Turbo S) is available.

I know Porsche DOES have higher hp models turbo, turbos S etc. I am saying we should not have to spend $150k to get power equal to a BMW M4. A base 991 should at the very least match the M4 which does it all for less money.
New spec are out 3.0 Turbo charge Base model get 370 hp and S model get 420 hp with about 369 torque. I like the front end better than 991, rear exhaust resemble GT3 styling. Love the new update but I take the 991 S with aerokit over this 991.2 mostly because of the NA engine and PDK with chrono.
I'm interested to see the new turbo cars. I am fortunate to have owned 4 previous Porsche TT cars the last being a 997tt with VTG turbo technology. The car was lightening fast and the lag greatly reduced with the new turbo technology and I can't believe that better available tech like electric assist will only make lag almost indistinguishable.
I have owned Porsches through their issue stages and dealt with RMS issues and "2nd gear pop out issues" but was never disappointed with how my issues were resolved (Porsche replaced a tranny for me in 3 days when I had the pop out of gear issue no cost to me on a TT).
Do I love my NA 4S, absolutely but would I look at and evaluate the next generation, absolutely. Will it be different, most likely will it be bad, most likely not. This is their flagship they won't f### it up. I'm patient, I'll wait and if I don't like it I'll stay with the 4S I love right now. Either way I won't go 1st year as it seems the 2nd year cars get all the small issues dealt with.
Or if I feel going back to a TT is the answer then that is an option. Just was hoping to stay MT and that might not happen.
