yesterday i went into paul miller porsche dealer to check out a 2013 cpo carrera. i drove the car, liked it and the numbers were right ,both on the car and my trade. i was gonna make the deal.
i noticed the car had performance summer tires pirelli p zero on 20 inch classic carrera wheels,code 427. i asked sales manager if he could swap them out for me. he said he cant alter the car because its cpo and has to meet the specs that porsche approved. i told him il look into swapping them.
i went on tire rack but only saw summer and winter in those sizes, no all season. it looks like the only option for me living in new york is second set of wheels and tires or take the car off the road for winter. im not comfortable with either one.
no all season tires made for porsche other then their suv's?
do i have any other options other then passing on the car?

There are NO all season tires approved by Porsche. Not even sure you can find the right size. I bought a CPO 2013 C4 that had a set of winter tires (Michelin Aspens) in addition to the summer tires (Pzeros). Got a set of Porsche wheels on ebay and mounted the winter tires. If you want a daily driver you NEED a set of winter tires. Summer tires are no good below 45F.
i understand that some level of performance is sacrificed with anything other then summer tires. but that same sacrifice is available and accepted with winter tires . so why not give some the choice who would go with all season. the reduction in performance would be off set with less cost and greater convenience. seems like there is a void in the tire market that should be explored . it might generate interest among those not living in year round warm weather climates, not only here, but world wide.

Who wants compromise?
Summer tires = Max Performance for the cars ability
Winter Tires = Max winter performance
All seasons = try and make everyone happy without being great at any one thing.

the tire issue is not limited to snow . if it was i would accept that.
its much more about the colder temps.
where i live i could easily see those temps below 50 degrees
almost half of the year so i either accept less performance with winter tires or a car in storeage. i would prefer the former. and so if i would accept less performance for almost half a year why not the other half ?
what about the porsche history. when did porsche go with summer only tires.

Many guys in Canada, Midwest, and NE.
Summer tires: Spring through early Fall
Winter tires: November through Winter
Best and safest driving for all seasons. Have never heard a complaint about wanting all seasons.
If you're talking about dry or wet streets, sub 50 temps (still above freezing) with no snow, that may be the small window where an all season would be ideal.
Most 911's are only rear drive. Many not driven in winter. It's a demand issue, hence no availability. Switch to 19's and you many have more options.

I have no experience with these tires, personally I went with dedicated winter wheel/tire set with N-rated Pirelli's.
Welcome to the World of Porsche. It's designed top to bottom as a performance car, not as a compromise. Most all buyers know that, and if running the cars in the winter will have a second set of dedicated snow tires/wheels. Putting a set of All-Seasons on a 991 is like taking a shower with your socks on....no one does it.
I have a dedicated 19 inch OEM wheel/tire package for my new Carrera 4 GTS. I took advantage of the Suncoast Parts summer sale and picked up the wheel/tire package for not much more than the tires plus TPMS would have cost. Great deal and I also believe dedicated tires for summer and winter are absolutely the best way to go.
That said, I also agree with the OP that Porsche approved all seasons could easily be offered and it might make sense for some depending on their driving style - even in a 991. I had a Panamera GTS prior to the 991 and took advantage of the Porsche approved 20" all seasons offered and was really impressed with the performance both in summer and winter. There may be other reasons Porsche offers this option in a Panamera vs 991, demand being one of them, but I can understand the OP wanting this option.

When you come for the wheels, I can show you my third set of wheels, 19", which are currently mounted with winter tires.
Whatever you choose to do, please know that winter tires are not an option around here if you drive year round. Don't find out the hard way when you go skating into the sidewalk on a freezing day.
