I drive my 991 Turbo S in the snow. Simply put a set of Michelin Pilot Alpin 4s on the stock wheels and bought a set of ADV1s for the summer tires. With snows the car is simply phenomenal in the snow

i have never had summer tires, and so i have no experience with them.
im looking for those who lives in areas where temps drop and who run them year round with limitations.

putting the car away for 4 to 5 months, or buying , storing, and twice a year swapping out a second set is not gonna work for me, as i clearly dont have the tolerance for either of those choices

im retired . i dont have to drive , i drive when i want. and when i do i average only around 4,000 miles per year .the porsche wont be on the road in any snow or wet road conditions when the temps are low.

im looking for info on how summer tires would perform under those conditions.
colder temps, dry road , no highway driving, local streets with speeds under 30 mph. anybody been there done that?

yesterday i was speaking to a guy in my old firehouse . he has a c6 vette that came from the factory with summers. he used the car year round here in n.y.c. with limitations like i stated above . when they wore down he went with all season.

When I lived in NYC I had a M5 with summers. 400 HP rear drive car. I simply didn't drive when snow and when temps were low I took it easy. I did drive on the highway, carefully. If you stay under 30 on cold dry days you will be good. Didn't have storage for wheels etc and it was before I became a car junky!

Good luck.

OP : the cold temp. is the issue. Many have run the summer Mich. PS2 at temps approaching 35d f. I've got my winter set with 14,000 now; the sixth season. My travel required the Alpin's. If you restrict your winter driving to warm days when the tarmac is not below freezing IMHO you could enjoy the pcar year round. Especially since you would 'only drive when you feel the need'. Do some research; from the Tirerack on winter rubber conditions.

I have no knowledge of the Pirelli p Zero but the rubber temp is what you need to understand. Taking the pcar out and getting stuck with dropping temps (near 32f) and you'll have a sled ride home even below 30mph. The road surface and the bridges are what to watch for not the air temp. 30 mins after a temp. dip might be an issue on northeastern bridges especially.

Given that I'd go for it ! I now log only 4k a year. We were up on Clingman's Dome with the c4s (+6,000ft) last May and it snowed ! I just drove slowly down to the warmer surfaces. The roadway probably didn't get below 35f.

i drive my C4S in all conditions and weather here in TN

The summer tires at least for me work very good for normal driving conditions in below freezing temps when it's dry out. When it snows I drive my old VW with all season tires.

This year I purchased a 2nd set of wheels for the C4S that were dealer take off's so after the OEM Pirelli's are dead I'm thinking of purchasing some winter tires so I can change out depending on driving conditions.

Good thread.

Has anyone run summers year round say in the Pacific Northwest? Doesn't snow very much around here unless one heads up to the mountains during winter for skiing.

Otherwise 10 months out of the year it's stuck in the 50s and rainy; 2 months in winter it can go down to 20s/30s, but no snow (though this summer has been a very good one, borderline hot and dry for nearly 3 months now).

The rear MPSS have recently become rather noisy. I have 305 rears.

It is rather annoying....

That's a bummer to hear about the MPSS.... how many miles?

My OEM Pirelli P-0's got noisy as well and I had to replace at just over 9k miles..... after installing the MPSS I went to the dealer and had the alignment checked and it was off on all 4 corners more on the front causing the tires to cup. The MPSS drove pretty quiet all the way down to the wear bars and now with another set of P-0's on the car they are wearing very well..... quiet as well as even tire wear.

Have you had the alignment checked since owning the car?

No and that is a good thought ..however, the tires appear to be wearing evenly.

I have heard they get noisier as they wear however.....

Tires

So far I do not have noise issues with my Michelin pilot super sports. I love those tires. They are so much grippiier than the stock Perelli P Zeros.

These cars are made for Winter, with proper rubber of course!
I felt like a Kid again driving in the Snow!
Priceless!
I just like being able to drive year round without worrying about tires!

Tires

Wasn't the tire causing the noise. It was the freakin 1.5 inch torx head screw.

Second tire replaced under tire and wheel warranty.

Customer + 1200 on warranty after premium.

Two tires
One wheel.

I would get a winter set - even in Oct/Nov/Dec, if you drive early enough in the morning, the temp can be quite cold. Why chance it?

The only pain is getting the tires/rims swap out and where to store them.

i would prefer the former. and so if i would accept less performance for almost half a year why not the other half ?

I find the Michelin pilot sports tires to be one of the best so far.
