You could do it, but it will only have an effect when valves are closed.
When the valves are open, the side mufflers are effectively bypassed and exhaust takes a short path thru the center muffler.

i do have the valves open currently by capping the lines and they do sound lot louder and better. it sound deeper than my previous 991 3.4 with the awe center bypass but was missing the loud crackle and pops.
but after putting about 300 miles on the car, i am starting to hear lillte more of the crackle and pops though... i was planning on waiting to put on about 1k mile to see if it gets any better before deciding on an exhaust.
yeah i've called fabspeed and they recommended the side exhaust if i wanted more aggressive sounds added to the open vales on the stock exhaust....
If you want crackle and pops you need an X-Pipe center section, like PSE.
I think the standard exhaust center section was designed to suppress crackles and pops.
Obviously lots of choices (beyond PSE).
Some I was considering are; Cargraphic, Tech Art, Klien.
Remus has my interest too, because it eliminates the side mufflers, but its not an X-Pipe design.
Untill, I get a chance to hear any of these in person, I dont know if they are a worthwhile upgrade over PSE.

yeah, im gonna ask my service advisor if it's possible for him to give me a call if he see's any 991 3.8s with aftermarket exhaust when they come in for service.
i still have the awe exhaust and could make it work on the 3.8 but it's more intended for the 3.4, although i've seen sharkwerk putting their 3.4 center piece on 3.8 cars. it would eliminate the valves and the short path through the center muffler. i think the loud pops would be there but the volume would be lower since the short path is eliminated and it would all have to exit through the side mufflers.
I'm also thinking of just selling the 3.4 awe center exhaust and buying the 3.8 awe and just keep the valves opens.

1. If your car is not equipped with PSE (which it sounds like it's not, given that you've capped your factory valves as opposed to just pressing the PSE button), then our newly-developed Valved Center Muffler Bypass X-Pipe would be a great way to go. This replaces your factory center muffler with a precision engineered valve-controlled x-pipe, giving you the bump in sound quality that you're looking for when the valves are open, while still allowing you the ability to remotely close the valves and route the exhaust through the side mufflers for a quieter ride when desired. Our X-Pipe includes a keyfob remote that gives you full control of the valve functionality from inside the cabin of the car while driving.

2. If aggressive sound and power are your primary goal, then your best option would be to shed the dead weight of the side mufflers and heavy center muffler and go with our Supersport X-Pipe Exhaust. This replaces your full exhaust system from the headers back with a beautiful quad-resonated stainless steel x-pipe, providing a nice horsepower and torque bump along with a fantastic exhaust note. The Supersport system is not valved, however, so you'd be singing at full song at all times.
