Sounds like they are continuing the trend to a "softer" 911.
As is the trend with most modern-day iterations of well-established sports cars.
Overall, I'm not impressed. The looks are not an improvement over the 991.1, the power is just a decent bump, but nothing crazy to warrant an immediate jump to a 991.2 based on what I'm seeing. In fact, the only thing that I consider an improvement at this point, personally, is the new infotainment system.
At first I didn't like the black grill... but now I'm thinking Suncoast will be selling a ton to 991.1 owners.
Except for those of us with a GTS that already has the black grill. I like the black grill, just not sure about the vertical slats in it. Maybe it will be OK, but seems to me the vertical slats will make the rear look narrower, not wider, which I think most people prefer.
Rear wheel steering is the big change other than the obvious engine swap. No matter how you parse the commentary I still hear 'turbo lag' and 'we tried to make it sound right'. 2 fails. I'm sure the mountains of low RPM torque will make the average buyer swoon and declare the new engines to be an upgrade.
It's amazing how we can get any driving impressions when the author didn't actually drive the car. Let me say that again: he didn't drive it. What he did do, was throw this at us: "the new 911, which decelerates with vitriolic spontaneity ...". I'm guessing - hoping - that his original review was translated into English, because that makes no sense.
"Baby turbo"! but 5 driving modes... Normal, Individual, Sport, Sport Plus, and Sport Response! If I were in the market for an upgrade, I would wait for the "proper" 2017 turbo S (no less)!!
