3 months in 991.2 Carrera S (comparison vs. 991.1)
Gent,
I used to have a 2014 911 C4S Coupe, so I thought I would give my review of my 2017 911 C2S Cabriolet:
1. Sound: A bit disappointed. The sound is very muted and just doesn't have that RAW sound from my 991.1. The 991.1 used to give me a lot of joy when I used to slam on pedal. That raw sound was just incredible and is missing in this car. The 991.2 is just as loud, but something just feels different.
2. Looks: Looks pretty slick. I used to have a metallic black version, which I loved the looks of. I now have a GT Silver car. At first, I regretted getting it, since it looked a bit plain and in direct sunlight, the color just looks bland. However, I have since grown to love the color. I think agate grey would be my second choice if I were to do it all over again. I also have Sport Exhaust, and I think the centered tailpipes gives the car a unique supercar look. I also was in love with the wide-body frame of the C4S, and also had a buy of Buyer's remorse and thought my 991.2 looked too narrow. Again, I have grown to love this.
3. Handling: Compared to my C4S, this car slides around a bit. It was a bit scary at first when the back slid out on me a bit. This was something that never happened on my C4S, as that car just seemed so "planted". I think next time I will go back with a "4" version.
4. S version: I have to admit, in my 991.1, have the "S" version was a must for me, and the sport exhaust was also a must. In this version, I rarely find myself using sport plus mode, the sport exhaust, etc. The base version just seems like it has enough power. Query whether the sport exhaust gives the base version the pops and gurgles...if it does, then I think next time I would just go for a base version. Again, disappointed with the overall sound of the car.
5. Sound System. The Bose is amazing compared to the stock audio I had in the 991.1. So glad I made the upgrade.
6. New electronics/nav interface: HUGE upgrade. Love the apple carplay as well. Despite my disappointment in the sound, this would be enough for me to pick the 991.2 over the 991.1. My only problem is that the component itself is not flush with the dash....why can't a 130k car have more tighter spaces in between the parts. Also, the right side of the component sits a bit LOWER than the left side - see pics. A total bummer and surprising coming from a car so expensive. I still find something about the interior of the car looking not as nice as other $130k cars.
7. Steering Wheel: Sorry no pics, but I have the one with the 918 steering wheel with the dial? Anyways, it looks nice but I wish those 3 metallic inserts on the steering wheel would have been made out of actual metal or some other composite with some "heft" to it. The silver plastic just feels cheap to the touch when I tap on it.
8. The back grill: Looks so much cleaner in my opinion. However, since's it's made out of plastic...it seems to be prone to superficial scratches. Any ideas how to get this out? My range rover suffered from this problem since it had a lot of this glossy plastic paneling.
9. Wheels: I wish I had gotten the satin black wheels. Oh well, maybe I will order my next one and get exactly what I want.
10. Cabriolet: Love the top down with this car. Honestly, I don't think I could ever go with a non-convertible sports car anymore after experiencing this.
11. Someone already backed into my car and scratched it. So annoying why people don't leave notes.

Do you think you don't like the exhaust sound because they're all using a turbocharger vs the old naturally aspirated engine?
I live at high altitude so the turbo charged engine is a big plus, but if I lived back at sea level again I can see how a traditional engine would be cooler.

I drove the base PDK a number of times and chose to go that route. I am coming out of a '14 C4S and the base Carrera was just as fast as the '14 S. I went with PSE, PDK, and Sport Chrono plus some other stuff. The low end torque was very impressive.
Thank you for the detailed review. Coming from M4, my 991.2 C2 has enough power for me. Yes, the PSE on base does have pops and gurgles.
I thought the air lift for the front is a must have but I guess that's personal decision. The BOSE at first doesn't impress me but seems like i'm getting used to it, not bad (comparing with the standard equip speakers on M4, I do not see a huge difference).
Of course, there is no contest for driving experience. Loving every moment on the C2!

Someone already backed into you?? Good Lord. I'd be livid with a new car.
I have read where sports exhaust is REQUIRED to even come close to the sound of the 991.1.
I really hope you get out and push your car more- a 2-wheel drive 991.2 S should be a real hoot.
As a bald man I'm a coupe man for life. I like the glass sunroof on mine- I'm more against having wind jostling me around at high speeds, but I get the allure of the convertible, it's a great look.

Shoot if I were bald it would just be one more minor reason for a convertible - it won't mess up your hair!

MrPorsche: I'm guessing you may have moved from Louisiana, since you now live at high altitude.
Great review. Based on other member reviews, there were no surprises.
Just curious, did you consider a 991.1 Turbo since a semi to loaded 991.2 C2S Cab is only $15-20K less than a lightly optioned Turbo.
I was looking at a 991.2 C4S/C4GTS but when I optioned it the way I wanted it, it nearly $150K. For $150K I found a heavily discounted, new 2016 991.1 Turbo and super happy with the decision.
