Wait time from build to dealer
Wait time from build to dealer
Build Lock 9/25/17
Arrived at San Diego Port 12/5/17
Ready for Transit 12/20/17
Delivered to Dealer in LA 12/27
At the end of Sept. 2017 I ordered a 2018 911 GTS. Production started within a week. The dealer told me the name of the cargo ship (The Pacific Coast Highway) and I could track its progress until it was delivered to the San Diego port 12/5. At that point no meaningful communication came from the dealer. I was renting a car day-by-day so it was driving me crazy. 12/20, I learned it was marked RFT (Ready for transit). 12/27 The Eagle landed at The Auto Gallery in LA. The car is amazing. 450HP manual / Deletion of Model Designation / SportDesign Package / Front Axle Lift System / white metallic / leather seats with heat and cool / $130,000 sticker. I paid $122,400 net. If you are waiting for a delivery, know that the dealer is out of the loop once it hits the port.

Don't fully understand your timeline or location(s) or delivery arrangements. However, you are right that the dealer has no control or knowledge of the cars movement once the car arrives at the destination port. They can generally only guess when it'll arrive at their dealership within a couple of days based upon past experience. Then it usually takes a few more days to prep the car and await documentation from Porsche NA before they can actually deliver the car to you.
Here's my 2018 991.2 GTS order status so far:
- Ordered it at the dealer 11/24
- Vehicle Completion - Planned/Expected Date = 12/22 / Actual Date = 12/21
- Entry Port Emden - Planned/Expected Date = 12/29
- Exit Port Emden - Planned/Expected Date = 1/19
- Entry Port Benicia - Planned/Expected Date = 2/16
- Exit Port Benicia - Planned/Expected Date = 3/2
- Dealer Inventory - Planned/Expected Date = 3/2

Overall I am really happy. The frustrating part was it took 22 days to go the last 150-miles. Here are some photos:
