991.2 base carrera or 997 turbo spyder?
991.2 base carrera or 997 turbo spyder?
I'm looking at a 6 speed manual spyder 997 turbo with great mods and only 40k miles around 65k or a bare bones (Bose only and no sunroof) and a 2017 carrera with 7 speed manual 10k miles around 75k.
My heart says 997 turbo with be more fun but figure I can buy the base 991.2 carrera and do a turbo upgrade for widowmaker status. Thoughts?

With mods, it is still a lot more linear than a CAPITAL LETTER TURBO but loses some linearity feeling. A modded #2 car can easily be tuned to be faster than a TURBO but the conversations get stupid real quick with people comparing theoretical cars with made up mods and variables that they've yet to (and many times never will) implement.
I've had the pleasure of driving a Gintani modified 991 #2 and it was fantastic. WAY faster than my relatively heavily modified 3.8 - like light years faster.... The linear throttle was gone and lag increased; although less lag than a BIG TURBO. Once on boost it was ludicrous speed.... but not way would I trade my car for that. It's just a different preference. YMMV. get what you like
I don’t mean this in a bad way but you must not spend any time on any forums. They have already built 991.2 with turbo upgrades and tunes that far surpass the turbo models, mid 600hp with greater torque.

But... then we get into the debates about speaking to which modded car and if this mod then that mod forum discussion which is tiresome. Meanwhile, I'm like that cigar I was smoking while detailing my car was way better than reading that thread
My tuned 991.2 GTS feels way quicker than my tuned 997.1TT did. It's also a lot better in every other way, IMHO. I'd take a 991.2 over a 997 any day of the week.
But damn, the mods and capabilities of a Mezger! Nowhere near the car of a new one but how fun!?!?

Eh, I think my 991.2 is 10 times more fun than my 997 ever was.
Yeah my plans are to proefi flex fuel e85 on the 997 (a little over 600 at the wheels) or do the boostaddict turbo upgrade for hopefully around 600 at the wheels on the 991.2 carrera on e85.
First world problems.
The I factor in big hp GTR's but I know I will probably get flamed for that LOL

I think it's an aging platform now though and I'd personally rather have a 911T if buying new and a #1 car with a 3.8 or 3.4 if buying used.... well - I'd take a used NA car over a new one but that is not a fit for you since you want to build big power
Just not gonna happen with the #1 cars. Mine is pretty maxed out at 450bhp but I love it!
I have both . The key strength of the 991.2 is the modern suspension . The car simply hunkers down with more precision and even comparing it a 997 turbo on coil overs . On the other hand with modifications and the Gt1 engine the 992 turbo is a straight line monster .
As a daily driver .. the 991 is so comfortable and efficient . It's also a newer car with more warranty and comes very nice bone stock.
Can't lose with either .

Why you're spreading misinformation about 'theoretical' upgrades is comical. 991.2 Turbo upgrades exist. They're here. The 991.2 is making much more power than a 991.2 Turbo S on 91 octane pump gas no less. Oh, with better spool too.
Anyway, until we see actual results from these cars - which we absolutely will, and soon - let's just cut back on that rhetoric, eh? I don't think that people buying something on your advice that they might be disappointed in will be happy.
Anyway... if it was me, I'd get a base carrera and mod it ... the 997 Turbo is a pretty great and fun car, and it's more raw than a 991.x but ... that isn't "me," and if I was to do it, it would absolutely have to be a 997.2 version.
Which - I am gonna say right now - is meaningless. DragTimes has been showing off a "600whp" TTS that runs absolutely stock times. So don't tell us, show us.
You have *zero* proof of this. Just some dyno sheet of a modded-turbo 9a2 running race fuel and putting down a big number.

Also - Dragtimes is mostly teenagers inputing data from something theoretical that they believe based on misinformation on the internet somewhere.
997TT is a fantastic car and the new 911 is of course the most sophisticated one - as will be the case with the 992. Very different ownership experiences though.
