What can you share that you wish you knew when you first got your 911
Michelin’s over pirelli
still love Michelins but I put MPS4s on my 991.2 and they’re less Michelin-like than previous MPSs. Two things struck me - 1) the shoulder profile is very blocky - there isn’t a gradual slope on the outside tread block like there usually is. This makes the tire a little more thuggish. It more abrupt to transition into a turn, not linear and smooth like before. 2nd odd quality for Michelin is that they aren’t any quieter than the PZeros. And lastly, the real surprise is that the wear rare seems about the same as the PZeros. I have 6k on them and my PZeros fronts looked better at this stage. Rears look about the same. Maybe its no coincidence that they don’t cost more than the Pirellis??? The grip is flat out superior and to a lesser extent so is wet grip.

911 advice
If you’ve never owned a 911 before consider this: people absolutely love them (yours truly) and many don’t. Whenever something is bold and polarizing you have to appreciate that the same qualities that enamour some alienate others. For example, the 911 generally is not a drag car. Taking off from a stop light and accelerating is likely not going to impress anyone whose been in a corvette from the last decade. It’s the overall package that’s amazing. It results in he ability to put down more power more of the time.
So so what I’m saying is don’t be surprised to be somewhat underwhelmed by a few qualities of the 911. It’s like a new job you have to experience it for a while (at least a few months) before you can make an assessment whether you love it and can’t live without it.
I didn’t know that before I got my first one; a 2009 Carrera. The cars are mechanically honest and pure. I would be upset if there were a new aston, AMG GT or BMW M car in place of my base manual 991.2. It’s my DD and its my second skin.
Think of a simple dish of pasta you get in Italy on vacation: it’s got 3 ingredients and it’s delicious why? The ingredients are fresh; there’s nothing in the dish to distract from that and the chef knows what he’s doing. Same with Porsche 911.
I hope you have a long and healthy love affair with your new ride. Congrats.
