I saw a video that stated that Porsche 911 water pumps are a point of failure because the spinning vanes are made of plastic, which break off too easy. Does anyone have any real world experience with this?
I wonder if this is a case of a few failures blown up into a much bigger then life story.

 

Search Rennlist seems to affect only certain newer model years which may mean its been fixed.

 

Nope, still one of the most common problems on the 991.1 and 991.2 models.

I had one go out on my 2018 carrera GTS

They did seem to fixx the COV problem of the 991.1 on the 991.2's.

i have just been informed of my second water pump failure in 3000 miles in my 2017 991.2. Seems like a common problem. Not like I drive it hard at all. Thank god it’s under warranty but unfortunately this little beautiful 911 S Carrera is going to go on the used car market soon. Absolutely ridiculous. Car has 25k Miles on it and for all I know it has gone through more than two water pumps in such small mileage. Pretty sad performance Porsche, pretty sad.

 

The issue seems to have affected the early 991.2 models.
